New shoes!

Welp, put 4 new Carlisle HD's LRE on the trailer yesterday. The tech at the shop couldn't confirm the wheels max psi. Manufacturer said max is 110 psi, I just wanted it confirmed. He said there was no marking whatsoever. And I trust this guy. He's owned this shop that specializes in trailer tires, horse trailers, car haulers, etc. for 40 years. So I suspect he knows what he's talking about. They have a cool tread pattern I have to say. Haven't had a chance to yank it too far (shop is .5 mi. from the storage lot) so I can't report any huge difference yet. Going to Harper's Ferry KOA this Thursday, so we'll see. Will keep ya'll posted on their performance.

No way its 110psi. Google it and you'll find that the max psi for that tire is 80psi. LRE stands for load range E.

Yeah, I know the tire is. I'm talking about the wheel.

TWP723, definitely keeps us posted. I'm right on the edge on tire replacement. The Marathons on our trailer just turned 5 years old. Not sure if I want to take the chance and go another year on them. I will be upgrading to an E rated tire as well as our rims are rated up to 80psi. Trying to decide between the Maxxis or Carlisle's.

I went with the Maxxis - I was torn between the Carlisle's an The Maxxis as well. All the positive reviews here and elsewhere swayed me in my decision...

Just a quick update on the Carlisles..

They did very well. I could definitely tell the difference between the two load ranges. The trailer seemed to track better and had less bounce. Not sure if it was my imagination or what, but it seemed to feel easier to pull as well. Not sure why, but it did. So yeah, I'm happy. So far.

So the new tires are load range E, correct? What was the previous load range?
The new load range E tires are inflated to 80 psi, correct? Previous tires were inflated to 65 psi, correct?

I find it entirely plausible that heavier ply tires and inflated to a higher pressure could be noticeably different, noticeably better, and have noticeably less rolling resistance.

So, on our first long trip, we had a Ranier tire (factory China bomb) go boom, in the middle of Little Rock and on a long bridge that was so bad it looked more like Grandma's patchwork quilt... and it ate the rim. Luckily, we had no RV body damage. So, when my new rim arrives next week, I'm going up from LRC to LRD and I guess I'm going with the Carlisle HDs, too. It'll be interesting to see if the stiffer tires make a difference. They also have a speed range of M which means 81 mph. I don't tow that fast but I'm uncomfortable towing anything with the cheap LRC China Bombs over 60, which was how fast we were going when that one let go. I found it interesting that the dealer wanted no part of trying to help me with filing any warranty claims with the tire company... disappointing but no surprise here. So, now I'll have 2 spares. One on the trailer and one in the pickup bed.

Keep us posted as to how the new Carlisle tires work out.
