Outside Window Trim

Greetings

First let me start that this is the first issue I've posted to the JOF and that I am extremely happy with my Jayco product, the third one I've owned.

My 2012 Pinnacle's exterior window trim has begun shrinking to a point where it has pulled away from the corners enough that one section of window trim was pulled completely away from the window and was dangling. I'm sure the strong winter winds we have experienced contributed, but the winds would not be any stronger than going 65 MPH down the highway.

I contacted my dealer who contacted Jayco and found out this is not a warranty replacement. Fortunately, as explained to me, the trim is trim only, and not weather stripping. so the integrity of the windows is not compromised by water intrusion.

Here are photos of the problem. According to my dealer, this is the second case of shrinking window trim he has seen.







My dealer quoted me a price of about $1.75/ft to replace the trim.

I'm just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Just curious, but did he say why it was not covered by warranty?

Hi, Crabman!

I was driving when I got the call, so my wife talked to the dealer/serviceman who passed along the info.

What I need to do is contact Jayco directly to get their explanation.

A 2 year warranty is a 2 year warranty "bumper to bumper". I was just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this.

I'd like to know what you find out as mine are doing the same thing. I thought about seeing if any of the big box hardware stores had the trim and just replacing it. Couldn't be that expensive. I was kinda hoping when it got warmer, it would expand back out to it's original length. I'm just having problems in the rounded corners of some of my windows.

Something isn't right, if it was an older unit I could see where this could happen (material hardens).

I replaced the trim on my '05' front window a couple of years ago when one corner kept working it's way out....., so I called my Jayco dealer for install advice. He told me that it's important that when installing the trim material to allow for corner expansion by maintaining a gap at the two cut trim ends.

He went on to say that they run into this issue sometimes on new units from the factory....... trim material not installed correctly.

You might be able to re-use the existing trim material by refitting it..., worth a try.

Update!

I was contacted by Jayco that the window trim IS covered under warranty. They will be getting in touch with my dealership for repairs.

We bought a new Airstream coach a number of years ago. Eventually it too had the same shrinkage with the rubber. I had to pay the dealer to replace them at about 6 years old. It was easy, didn't cost much and made me feel better. The coach was 12 years old when it died. I think the rubber used in the replacement was better quality than OEM was. (Neighbors had a fire in their out building that was 5' from my fence line, and 8 feet from my coach. The extreme heat melted and delaminated the drivers side wall, roof and rear end cap.)
