Roofing material separation

What ever is used as roofing material under the rubber membrain is begining to warp at the seams. It is pushing up and stretching the rubber roofing to its max. It seems as if its plywood and it was not secured(screwed or nailed) down to the framing structure. I found this while winterising the trailer and checking the roof. It apeers I have a major repair in my future. It's so frustrating to find bad workmanship.

I wonder if you have a leak which is causing the plywood to buckle. Is the plywood soft or brittle and is there any interior signs of a leak?

It does sound as though you may have a leak. Is it soft where it is buckling? Look around the ceiling below the spot, sometimes leaks are not real obvious.

Water can travel from one spot to another before it leaks into the interior.

No, no soft spots or holes in the roof. No sign of a leak inside. Plywood feels solid under the rubber roof, but buckling anyways. Too late now anyway, gotta get it fixed.

Are you able to post a picture? Please let us know the what was found to cause the problem and what they suggest to remedy it. This may benefit others on the forum who may have a similar problem.

I wonder if screws let loose due to poor workmanship and the plywood is seperating from the bowed trusses. If you get a diagram of the truss locations, maybe you could put a few screws through the roof and pull it back down onto the trusses and then just caulk the screw heads.
Rotten or swollen wood doesn't seem like it would give you this high stress on the rubber unless it was totally water loagged and you would be able to feel that.
Might turn out to be an easy fix if not under warantee.
Just a thought, Doug

Doug, thank you, this seems very doable. I'm going to go this route for starters. I'm hoping Jayco can help with a diagram.

Is it possible that you could post some pics of the area in question (?)..., may be a helpful visual reference as the discussion proceeds.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

That's where I'd start if it were me. Your roof material is only 4 years old.

I'd caulk the screw heads or put some Extendabond tape over it.

I am hopeful you can fix it this way.

Keep us posted.

Get some pictures when you can.

Best regards,
Doug

I'm not familar with "Extendabond tape".., but another option is "Eternabond" roof seal/repair tape and is used throughout the RV industry.

http://www.bestmaterials.com/Eternabond.aspx

Eternabond tape is a great alternative in lieu of caulking on the roof, lasts much longer and requires little if any attention once properly applied. I've used this sealer tape on my TT roof/cap seams.

Yes,
Bob I meant Eternabond lol. I am getting old here. Thanks for correction.

I found the best pricing on Amazon.com or you can get it at your local Grainger.

Best regards,
Doug

Doug,

I wasn't sure, because there is an "Extendabond" product out there..., just not sure I would use it on an RV roof
