Toilet Replace in '87 TT - What are my options?

So, let's be clear - I am not a toilet expert haha. My question is simple: when hunting for replacement toilet options, what should I be searching for? How will I know the replacement toilet will fit the existing location and/or configuration?

Note: there's nothing wrong with my existing toilet, except it's yellow and gnarly looking

Thanks!

Is there someplace online which is generally the best value/price/quality to buy this type of stuff?

Try Amazon, they have many models starting just over $100 with free shipping.

If there is nothing wrong with the current toilet I wouldn't recommend changing it unless you are handy. I have rarely seen one that age that is a simple change out. Usually the floor is rotten around it and fittings/hardware can be nearly impossible to remove due to age/corrosion. And that includes homes not just RV's. Not saying its impossible, just don't expect it to be an easy in and out swap.

That's good advice! Thank you for that. I am very handy and can do anything with the camper, but I don't want to create an unnecessarily painful project for a small inconvenience [emoji2]

Hi. UPDATE question.

There seems to be a good deal on a new toilet on Craigslist. Wondering if it's now worth it to replace that toilet. Everything in my camper is in excellent condition, including the old toilet. It's just yellow and old, looking for an update.

Thoughts?

Make sure you measure from the wall to the center-line of the toilet to make sure you have room for the new one. Also, you will probably need to make some change to the water line as surely the new toilet will be different. The china-bowl residential style units are MUCH nicer that the old plastic ones could ever be and you can get a taller unit if you want too. You could go to a Camping World store to check them out and get measurements as they usually have some out on display. Doesn't mean you have to buy from them though!

I'd like to expand on the excellent advice from Fingerlakes. First, the offset must either be the same as your old toilet or the sewage line it fastens to has to be re-located. Relocating might be easy or difficult; for me, if I put in a new toilet, I would vastly prefer the offset to be the the same. The offset is the distance from the rear wall to the center of the drain connection. Usually, you can measure from the wall to the hold down bolts on the sides to determine the offset of the old toilet (without having to take it up, yet). Also, you have to plan on how to connect the fresh water flush line, and plan on what kind of floor flange you need to attach the new toilet.

Also, the whole toilet must fit. If it is too long, maybe there would be a problem with clearance in front of the toilet; if too wide, there might be a problem with clearance side to side. Consider also how high you want the new toilet to be. The same as the old one, or higher, or lower.

I won't say that replacing a toilet is a nice job, but if the old one fits it won't be too hard --- unless there is floor damage that must be repaired somehow.

I see that toilet is a low profile one. It's only 12 3/4" high. You may want to measure yours, to see how tall it is. If you have tallish family, it may be uncomfortable to use. Just an observation.

Low profile toilets usually sit up on a step, so unless your old one is the same height, avoid it.

Also, consider a foot pedal model as opposed to the hand flush. No leaning over the bowl to flush.
