Water system and multi-month storage
Greetings -
We are back from two-week Wyoming vacation and have cleaned up the travel trailer and will be putting it back into storage until later in the Fall.
QUESTION: Do folks do anything special to water system (including hot water heater) if RV will be stored for several months? I am concerned about bacteria, slime, algae.
For example, drain hot water heater, blow out any residual water using air pressure, etc. Will we need to sanitize in Oct/Nov when we use it again to ensure no algae formed in water line after sitting for several months?
All articles I've found relating to sanitizing water system relate to de-winterizing in spring.
Many thanks,
Dave

In my opinion, if you are storing it for a few months simply blowing out all the lines will be fine.
You WILL ABSOLUTELY have to sanitize the system when you go to use it in October.
The sealed system with minimal water won't build significant microorganisms in that span of time.

I agree with Mike. If you have the equipment, just blow it out.
We typically use ours about once a month from May to February, and I usually just gravity drain all the water before it goes back to storage. I'll open the fresh tanks (I always travel with some water in there for "incidentals"), open and drain the HWH, open the Low-point drains and open every faucet. Let it drain for a few hours or over night (much more than it really needs), then close everything back up before storage.
When I go to get it from storage for the next trip, I'll make sure I run plenty of water through the system before I button it up for travel. I sanitize the system once per season (at the beginning) with bleach mixture.
If I need to winterize, I'll blow the lines and put anti-freeze in the pea traps. Sometimes if I know we're not going to be in it for a while, I'll blow the lines during the season.

If mine, I would drain and bypass the water heater then blow out the lines with all faucets and low point drains open. Sanitize prior to using in the fall.
Don't forget to hang a tag on the water heater switch to remind you it is empty and bypassed.

Appreciate all the replies. Great idea on the note for HWH!
