What's up with my wdh?
So we went camping for the night last night. More like our 2nd test run since buying our new TT a few weeks ago.
I had to back into a tight spot at the campground. The cg was about 30 min away so I didnt even install my sway bar since I knew I would have to back in. The entire time getting there my wdh was silent. Never even noticed it even on a couple of tight turns, bumps etc. Got to the cg and that's when she started screeching like crazy on the unsaved roads and while it was pouring. The spot was really hard to get into. Finally after about 15 mins we got the TT in the spot. Today leaving it just sounds really annoying even on straight rd or turns you just notice the sound much more after yesterday's crazy maneuring. I did notice that I pinched the 7 pin cable yesterday. Maybe I turned to tight and possibly damaged something on the wdh? Could it also be the turning radius on my Durango? My wdh is a EAZ-lift 1000.
What can I do to eliminate some of this screeching and horrid noise. My poor 3yr old was really scared. Lol

I have an Equalizer, so not exactly the same, but mine went from a little noise here and there when new, to horrifically, scary loud after just a few uses. A little all purpose grease on the hitch head and where my sway bars insert in the hitch, and now completely silent.

Sounds like you need grease on the ball, since you were not using the bars really only place noise could be coming from.

Personally, I've never heard a ball making that much noise. Usually it's when the bars are on. Strange indeed.

I called camco this morning! Really impressive customer service. Quick response.
They confirmed that I should only apply a very small amount of lube on the ball but most of the noise is coming from the wd bars and they sb lubed generously with automotive type axle grease since they use zerk fittings where the bars snap up into place. Will lube them up and test them out before our next outing.

Sounds like a plan! Good luck!

Thank everyone for replying! What a huge differernce some lube does. It's like a new wdh. Totally silent. As per my manual it says to lube every time you put the bars on and off but i will just keep an eye on it going fwd.

I would be sure to clean it out from time to time and apply new grease as it is in a dirty area and grease and dirt turn into a lapping compound and may speed up wear in the hitch. When I purchased Mine I was told not to grease it. Still a little mixed on what to do. Started using a little fluid film. So far so good. Good luck.

I use a Blue Ox WDH so I may be talking out of school but if you lube the bars wouldn't that reduce the effectiveness of the WDH. Just wondering.

No just use it where the bars go into the hitch and on the ball of the hitch. The wdh uses torsion or torque on the bars to push weight onto the front axle. If you have sway protection built in to your wdh don't use lube on the friction material because yes that will decrease the sway protection.

I could see how that's true with the anti sway bars. They do not advise lubing those. But depending on what type of fittings and connectors your wdh uses it might call for lubing where the bars go into the slots as mine do. This creates a tremendous amount of friction when turning and reversing. That's how Camco the manufacturer of my bars explained it to me.
