The one you actually use!

All of the name brand ones are fine.

Tearing the hubs apart, cleaning, inspecting (replace worn bits) repack and reassemble is MUCH MORE important than who's name is on the tub.

Check the manual for your axle and verify the recommended grease type specifications. I don't think brand name matters much as long as it meets the specs defined in the manual. If you are unsure of the grease type currently in use then you definitely want to pull everything out and thoroughly clean the old grease off - don't be tempted to just pump the new grease in via the EZ-Lube if so equipped. There can be compatibility issues between grease types that can degrade the effectiveness if mixed.

Seeing that all greese is NOT compatible you should #1 do it yourself and if you don't you should find out exactly what your service man uses. A greese that's compatible with most is a ( Lithium Complex ) Hi Temp/high viscosity and that's what I use. Now it comes in colors and that's important to me ( I use yellow and red ) and I change it once a year with my greese gun. Say last year it was yellow so this year I'll use the red greese so when I use the red over the yellow I just squirt it in till all the yellow is gone and its full of red. Take your time and always rotate your wheel, 1 squirt, rest a second or two and then another till its done. Set up a paper bag next to you as you'll go thru almost a full roll of paper towels if you have 4 wheels and 1 pair of pants, 1 set of rubber gloves. I always keep 2 tubes of each color on hand but you'll only use 1 full tube for doing the 4.

I echo the comments about reading owners manual. Also, if you had a dealer or other service location do the work in the past I suggest rebuilding/replacing the bearings and starting with fresh grease. You don't know what grease they put in. Compatibility issues are no joke. I have been in engineering for bearings my whole life. I have seen steel mills go down because they put the wrong grease in.

That’s what my owner’s manual specifies for my Dexter EZ lube axles, and that’s all I’ve ever used.

I've used Lucas Red and Tacky in just about everything I own or have owned including boat trailers, utility trailers, automotive and of course my campers. I can't say its the best product but it has never failed me.

I am anal when it comes to maintenance and repack all my trailer bearings once a season.

Your first step should be to determine what kind of axle you have... without relying on what it says in the Jayco handbook, they're notoriously misleading.

You'll need to pick a dry day, and some old clothes, then "limbo" underneath to read the label on the axle. I took my camera with me, to record the whole label... there's quite a lot of useful detail on there.
Then I emailed the manufacturer -in this case,, Lippert - who were very helpful, and gave me a bunch of information.

Their recommendation was that the grease should be NLGI #2, designated GC-LB on the packaging
In production, they use Citgo Lithoplex, but they noted that any brand will do, as long as it meets the specs

I use Lucas X-tra Heavy Duty (Green). I got the following from Lucas after an email to them asking which they suggest. The other thing I like about Lucas is it’s available practically everywhere and reasonably priced.

Generally, the main reason that you would use Lucas Xtra Heavy Duty Grease over the Red n Tacky grease is because it is better for surviving at higher temperatures. If you use Red n Tacky on bearings and other machinery that is going to get to extremely high temperatures, then you’re going to have issues with it melting at extremely high temperatures. You won’t have to worry about this with the Xtra Heavy Duty Grease, as it’s designed to survive at extremely high temperatures.

If you need a grease that’s going to last longer than your regular grease, then it’s a good option to go for a heavy duty grease like this one. Because it’s made specifically for heavy duty things, then it will reduce the need to continually change greases – this is a common problem with ‘normal’ grease.

That's an interesting reply from Lucas regarding the green grease. That's what I've been using, and it seems to hold up really well. Thanks for posting.

I use Sta-Lube Extreme Pressure Multipurpose NLGI 2 Moly-Graph grease on any grease point on my trailer. Molybdenum is an excellent lubricant and is perfect for bearings and anything our trailers see.

If you are doing a manual repack what was used last doesn’t matter as long as you clean the parts before repacking. What is important is a quality grease. The recommendations above are good.
