X19H Water Leak (again!)

Hi all,
When first getting my camper (less than 2 months) I initially had a leak. I originally posted here off someone else's http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/sh...highlight=x19h

Thought the problem was fixed (even though I was unsure of their diagnosis). Well today sitting in the driveway...it leaked again. I am convinced that water is coming in through the furnace vent. The water pools right underneath the furnace inside the camper. You can't see to well in the picture, but the wood the furnace is sitting on is also wet. The dealer said it was a leak in the refrigerator vent as talked in the linked post. That may have been an issue, but it still leaks.

Have anyone here (or you know) had this sort of leak? It is now damaging the wood cabinetry and really starting to hack me off. I am of course going to call the dealer (2 hours away) but wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this. It is the stock Atwood furnace.....

That stinks! I have a 19H also and have had issues. It will be going to a dealer for water leak repairs after the season. Although mine is where the tent end attaches to the camper.
Are you in Bedford, VA? If so, who is your dealer if you don't mind me asking.

Funny you should say you have a leak on a tent end. The front tent end has a leak where the left side wire attaches to the steel bracket. At least that is where the water comes out. I haven't worried about it because the dealer is supposed to replace that tent end anyway.

I'm in Bedford Michigan....

I'm interested in hearing your resolution. I just took our "new to us" 2007 19H out for the first time during a rainy weekend and we found several wet and rotten spots. Got some work to do...

So far I just covered the vent with aluminum duct tape. I am working on something more permanent. The tent end is getting replaced so I'm not worrying about that so much.

Hello,

I have a 36 FS and had a leak in the same area. Mine was the ice maker drain gasket accessed at the panel that covers the back of the refrigerator. Hope that helps.

Old post but in my 2015 28bhbe I have the same leak. Dealer is looking into it. My first guess was furnace also...

Well, Camping World has it now to fix the tent end. It wasn't sealed properly at the factory so that was/is an easy fix.

I explained the 'other' leak issue. They hosed it down repeatedly and even had the water spay the vent as if coming from the side. They could not duplicate any leakage. On one side, that's good. On the other, it'll still be in the back of my mind whenever it rains.

I will probably still seal the vent with the aluminum tape when not in use. It's cheap and easy to do....

The first thing I thought of was the condensate drain for the refrigerator? Open the access panel outside. There is a small dish has a small hose draining into it. The hose could be off to the side allowing any refrigerator condensate to drip down and work its way to the noticeable problem area.

Also I see you have your water pump next to the problem area. If you can reach in. Put a few pieces of toilet paper on different areas. If the paper gets wet it will change shape indicating a direction of travel. Just be careful around things like the furnace and the like so it cannot get to hot and burn.

Just because that is where the water collects does not mean that is where the leak is.. it could come in through the roof and this is the spot it drips down at.

Yeah, they soaked the roof too...no leaks. Doubt it was the fridge.

In my original post I stated that the dealership re-sealed the fridge vent. They said the chalk was not put on properly and that is where the leak is from. But it leaked once since then and I am still not convinced that where it was coming from. The base the furnace sits on was wet....

I hope for your sake it is an easy fix. Mine was leaking at the tent end and I was told the same thing "Not sealed properly from the factory" Then 2 replacement tent ends were sent in damaged. 3rd one was ok, but, after 7 months at the dealer, it was still leaking.

It poured today, water in the furnace area. I replicated the issue by spraying the side of the camper, like I was washing it. Sure enough, water runs down the side of the camper and into the vent hole and into the furnace and onto floor. It's like the vent tube is tilted into the camper. The camper was completely level.

You're on to something there. I had two dealers that could not replicate the issue. I don't know why it never occurred to me to check the camper level. I never worried about it in my driveway but if it's not level, the tube could leak in....

I have it in my driveway now, it's been raining, no leaking. It's not perfectly level, tilts in the direction that would tilt the vent tube toward the inside....it's not far off.

Maybe the dealer straightened it out without realizing it. I know the messed with it because they forgot to re-connect the heat ducts (doh!).

I will be keeping an eye on it. Maybe level it and try to replicate....

Well....today we had a storm blow through...yep, leaked again! So, I sealed the heater vent with aluminum tape again. This time, I called Jayco direct. They asked for the pictures from today and the original complaint back in August. They have records of when the other shops looked at this issue. The technician is supposed to call me in the next few days. I'll post what he/she says....

I brought mine to Terry Town in Grand Rapids. They fixed the issue and repaired the water damage. They did something inside the furnace and resealed the outside as well. I tested it and it passed.

I called them (Terry Town). Basically they re-positioned the heater and reinstalled the exhaust/intake. They also took the vent and turned it towards the ground and sealed the top edge. Apparently, it was installed in a way that the water would pool at the exhaust and drain into the camper instead of out.

I will be taking mine into the nearest dealer and have them contact Terry Town. Hopefully they will be able to fix mine.....
