I'm kind of lucky my neighbour is a mech at a dodge dealer, my check engine light came on, he was able to plug in and tell me what was wrong. New gas cap and some beer was the remedy.

Maybe fix the problem that caused the light to come on? I have a brother in law that won't fix anything until his truck won't start or move. He has his service engine soon light and brake light that have both been on for a couple of years and he has no idea why and doesn't care. He won't even get a flat fixed as long as he can air it up between trips. And he has to carry water around in a jug to fill his radiator every few hours when traveling because of a leak in his cooling system.

If you see him coming, run the other way. He won't change tires until they won't hold air even if the steel cord is showing.

Needless to say I won't ride with him EVER!
