That would be a dream trip for me. And I'm ready to leave next year if I get the right response to the following question: Is anyone out there willing to sponsor my gas charges?
You can get a good taste doing the inter-passage cruise.
7 Days from Vancouver to Ankorage.
If you have the time and money, Vancouver is worth 3-4 days alone on the front end.
The comforts of a 5 star cruise ship and some side trip is very rewarding.
Probably most extensively beautiful place I've ever been.
Probably won't get there in an RV, but very glad I took the cruise.
We spent 19 days did Alaska in 2008. We flew into Anchorage, rented a MH for a week. We could have spent 2 to 3 weeks in the MH easily. We rented a house for a short week in Steward. Then jump onboard a cruise ship, and floated down to Vancouver. The things we did and saw was incredible. Alaska and the Bahamas are two areas that I would love to go back to.
Even though most of us are experienced road travelers, I think Doug's and Jagiven's stories are going to be more common than driving to Alaska. I have the time to drive - not sure about the money. Has anyone made a road trip from the Midwest to Alaska? ... would be interested in hearing about it.
