Rule #1: Don't keep $100K in your RV
A couple was robbed of $100,000 worth of Jewelry and 30 handguns from their RV:
Here is the link
My first question is:
Why do you have $100,000 worth of jewelry in your RV?

Why do you have $100k worth of jewelry, period.
That kinda $$ could go for some very nice RV upgrades!!

Guess I'm lucky, DW says, "No boats, no fur coats and no diamonds".

I guess I could see having it with you if you were a full-timer. But then again, I would store most of mine in a safe deposit box. The firearms would be a bit harder to store, but my dad has enough safe space to accommodate my modest collection.
Luckily, DW and I have pretty simple tastes. The only thing we own anywhere close to that value is our house! When we're in the RV, we don't really carry anything of value. I even leave my class ring at home most times. Our wedding bands are about all we have that's worth anything... And those are worth more to us than anyone else, and they're just "stuff" anyway. They can be replaced.
But even if I owned it, no way would I be carrying it with me, even if I were a full-timer.

Uh,
I'm gonna sound Very Canadian and say.....
"Your 'first' question is about the money?..... Not why and how do you fit 30 handguns in an RV? I mean I get a couple.... but 30? Did they plan on one every day for a month?
Ah well I guess, if your carrying 100K, maybe you need a hevilly armed escort LOL"

Unbelievable how some people think, even us RVers.
And who needs 30 guns in their RV anyway? I carry 27 and I'm perfectly satisfied. Hahaha
Happy RVing,
Jeff

Leave it to a Canadian to raise the ?? about why guns. Have to agree that keeping anything of significant value in your RV is not a good idea. Its really difficult if not impossible to secure an RV if someone wants in bad enough. The secret I guess is to make your RV look like all the rest of them with nothing standing out that screams "rob" me. My TT is nice but pretty much looks like a hundred others in the CG. I keep a fairly messy site per my wife but that may protect us by making the guy with all the fancy stuff outside a much more attractive victim.
The gun ?? has been chewed on in several threads. My experience in talking with others is that a significant percent of campers in a CG have a weapon with them. I believe that is a personal choice and am happy to live in a country where the government can't make that distintion for me.

Maybe they are gun collectors, travel the country going to gun shows, trade jewelry to pay for the guns and put the guns in a safe when they get home. Unfortunately, they got robbed before they got home.
I agree with Bassdogs above.

I won't argue as to why/if they should have that many guns... but I would certainly argue their lack of responsible ownership. Do you really believe an RV is secure storage option? Eh? (yes I'm a proud Canuck)

Suspect there is more to the story than shown. Read my post, I said clearly that keeping valuables in an RV is not a good idea, cash, guns, jewelary or what ever. I am a careful gun owner but having that many guns in your possession only makes sence if you are a swap show dealer. In any regard the fact that he had that in his RV was known by someone. The robbery was likely not a random act. Have a friend who buys, sells and rebuilds classic cars. He goes to several classic car shows each year. At one he met a fellow collector who had restored a 57 chevy, a beautiful and valued at over $100k. They were camped on the same loop. That night the car was stolen, I'm sure by another participant at the show. My point is RV's, campsites and CG's in general are far from secure locations.

Well, I'm a Yank and I had the same first reaction as the Canadian.
Everyone has different values for different things. Some people collect stamps, some rare coins (I prefer common dollar bills), some matchbooks, etc. As long as people do not hurt others with what they collect, it really doesn't matter to anyone else what they collect or why.
I'm not going to speculate why those RV's had so much in jewelry and guns on hand in their RV because that's all it would be: speculation. And, frankly, I don't give the north end of a southbound furry little rodent.

Wow, 30 handguns and $100,000 dollars I am just blown away but this is just one case, I know that their are a lot other people that do something like this but just haven't been stolen, yes a lesson learn for somebody anyway.

Just because you can have an unlimited number of guns in your RV doesn't mean it makes sense to have 30. The application of logic is not automatically a threat to one's rights.
With that said, maybe they were firearms dealers, who knows. In any case, nobody has the right to steal other people's property, regardless of whether it "should" or "shouldn't" have been in the RV.

30 guns means 30 missed opportunities to stand your ground.
When camping I often have two firearms: one 9mm handgun and one 12 Ga; both loaded and ready to greet y'all (2 legs - 4 legs).

LMAO;
I am amazed at how far my Comment went....
Clarity
1) I'm Canadian and my Government does not decide weather I have a firearm or not. (Many Canadians stand their ground on Gun Control Laws, and while they are seemingly more oversight and enforcement in Canada. Any reasonable citizen, like myself, will retain access to them.... ahm... even against an oppressive occupying force/Govt)
2) I grew up on a farm and teach safety courses including Bear and Predator risk courses... (On the farm we had several instances where we needed to do predator/pest control)
3) I never once said I didn't carry a weapon or firearm while camping..... I'm a heavy advocate that one should.
4) My comment was regarding the sheer number of firearms, and that people were focusing on the amount of $$$ in jewelry on hand. One would think that Like stated in the original article, illegal firearms on the streets would have been the primary concern. And I felt that it was rather above and beyond to have one for each day of the month in your RV. (Now a few per person that makes sense to me)
Enjoy your chat guys, but Don't be under the false impression I (or Canadians in general) am against guns, second amendment concepts, or having protection while camping.

I would guess that it's not just a random robbery. Either they blabbed to the wrong person, or if they we're at a gun show, they may have been followed back to the site. Just saying somebody knew beforehand. Too much of a coincidence I think.

I wonder how much insurance coverage they have. That's a lot of cash and weapons in one RV. The kid was caught with one gun, where are the other 29? Hmmm. Something just doesn't smell right with this story.

hah. I worked in EMS for many years. We were called on to do a welfare check on someone who lived in an RV. The Playboy centerfolds plastered over the bed area along with other evidence showed that he died happy.
Unknown to us his life savings ($100,000) was under the mattress.
