17 Seneca fuel guage

You guys that own 2017 Senecas, is the fuel gauge pretty accurate? Picking up my new coach tomorrow and was wondering if it will read more accurate than my 2014 did. That gauge was way off.
Thanks guys,

My 2017 37TS fuel gauge is not accurate. The gauge quickly falls to half and then to a quarter more slowly. I had Freightliner test the fuel sending unit and it tested within specs.

I have a 2017 37TS and fuel gauge is very inaccurate. I just figure a rough 10 mpg and go from there. So at 400 miles I start looking for fuel with intensity.

Just curious, what is the most fuel you ever put in? At 10 mpg and a 74 gallon fuel supply, you have a theoretical range of 740 miles. 340 miles is a safe reserve.

Well, I just picked up my new 2017 Seneca 37RB and I'm here to tell you they don't build them like they did in 2014.
The fuel gauge seems to be pretty accurate from what I can tell so far. Traveled 150 miles yesterday and the fuel gauge shows i burned a little less than 1/4 of the tank.
Park the Seneca in the driveway walk around to the rear and noticed it was leaning towards the driver side. I guess there is a problem with the air bag, who knows. Has any one else had this problem?

One time I ran it to what I believed to be "the ragged edge" and put almost 65 gallons back in. The gauge had been buried on "E" for some time with the low fuel warning light illuminated in downtown Chicago traffic. Never again, I was sweating bullets for the last hour. Most of that trip was doing 70 towing my Focus (except when stopped!), I think it was around 530 miles on the tank.

I have gotten over 11 mpg, but that is usually on secondary roads doing aroud 55. As speed goes up, mileage suffers proportionally. We are pushing a shoebox through the air! The picture below of my ScanGauge is from early last month picking up my Seneca from Jayco Service. One of those 55 mph trips!

So what is your magic milage number for getting fuel? Our fire trucks were to refuel at 1/2 a tank in case we had a major incident. I was excited about the 74 gallon tank but it sounds like everyone is refueling at about 400 miles, theoretically about 1/2 a tank.

Saying all this I truly hate that feeling of running low on fuel with nothing in sight.

Yes, I believe 340 miles a good cushion, but I don't trust the gauge. The most I have put in the coach is 50 gallons & the low fuel light was on. Not sure the low fuel should have come on with 24 gals still in tanks. That was after running 485 miles with some generator use. I was not on interstate highways so no truck stop every other exit. That is why I start looking at 400 miles.

Getting close to a half a tank and I'm looking. 2 lights off on the DEF and I'm looking. The bladder seems to control many of the stops these days, so I just do a truck stop and take care of me and the dog.

We don't travel that much at night, anymore, but when we do, we only stop at truck stops. Rest stops are only during daylight and then we still are a little cautious.

Just the getting old syndrome. Don't feel like fighting anymore and too much paperwork, lawyers and time, if I shoot em.

Ain't that the truth.

I think that there are other factors to consider in the fuel level gauge.

1- The Fuel gauge sender is in the drivers side tank, and that tank is smaller than the passenger side.

2- The fuel crossover is small and not effective for balancing the tanks while fueling the coach, but when the coach is leaning on the passenger side when parked for even a half hour, the transfer of fuel is significant enough to show on the gauge... (we parked with over a half tank on the gauge, and when we started back on our way a half hour later, then tank showed under a quarter and the Generator shut down) Once on our way on the highway, the fuel balanced out and the gauge showed that progress.

So... depending on the highway (how much crown is on the road) you have the fuel level in the tanks fluctuating back and forth between the driver and passenger tank, and the gauge does too.

With 75 gallons on board, and we run the generator a lot... we plan for fuel at about 400 miles where we can get into a Pilot/FlyingJ. It does not matter if we are loaded full, towing our toys and weigh 32,500# We don't sweat the fuel situation, or worry about the gauge either.
