2008 Seneca 36FS Water fill problem

So I filled the tank (80 gallons, according to manual). We ran out in less than a day. We are used to dry camping and conserving water, so it was a surprise. I suspect that the tank did not fill all the way.

I had the control valves set to "city water fill" and filled it (slowly) until water ran out of the overflow tubes. My next step is to see how many 5 gallon water buckets I can fill from my "full" tank.

Anyone have suggestions/ideas?

Like others on here I cut a hole in the area around the tank so I could see what is happening with the tank. I filled my on Friday and went camping. when we arrived at the site I had lost about 15% from splashing and going up hills, I have not installed shut offs on the overflow line. We were able to take 5-6 showers, use of toilet and clean dishes for two days, still had about 20% remaining when we got home. I would do a simple test to see how much water you are putting into the unit. Have the tank empty and set up your fill hose. fill for 1-2 minutes, then drain into a bucket to measure, once you determine your flow rate per minute just turn it on and see how much time it takes to fill. Alternative is to purchase a water meter and use that when you fill so you can have a precise idea of how much it holds.

It probably siphoned out on your drive there. It's a known problem with many of the fresh water tanks. When we had our 08 I put valves on the overflows that I shut as soon as I turned the hose off.

just be sure to open them before you start pumping wate out of the tank

We have a water flow meter, so we know how much we put in the tank.
We don't want to drag around extra water, so only put in what we think we'll need.

Our meter is like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Rainwave-RW-9.../dp/B007NHS9M4

Just picked up one for myself at Home Depot. $10. Worth it to see how much I am putting in and how fast.

Thanks

To everyone for the replies!

What size is the tubing for the overflows, so I can buy the shut off valves? I'm not near the seneca right now.

We needed three of them... they work Perfect now. Just remember to close the valves when you roll... and open when you stop.
