2012 Greyhawk 31ds Shocks

I searched and couldn't find an answer. Sorry if I just missed it. Is there a list of part numbers for shock absorber replacements for my Greyhawk 31ds? Gotta do something about the handling!

Thanks,

Jason (newbie)

That's too new to need shocks replaced, must be another problem.

What problem are you having? Sway, rough ride, excessive bounce?

We have a 2008 31SS and it was a hand full on the road . The first thing we noticed that the inside tire wear on the front tires at 21000 miles. I found out that most motorhomes are not aligned after they are built The camber was out by 1/2 degree. It was a huge improvement . Then we ordered the Bilstein shocks Front 24-187570 rear 33-176857 and the stabilizer shock 24-174534. Not only does it drive good it never bottoms out and it got rid of them annoying rattles Hope this helps

Our Greyhawk came equipped with the J-Ride package which included Hellwig overload helper springs, Hellwig anti-sway bar, MorRyde body isolation mounts, and Bilstein shocks. This is the best equipped F-450 motorhome chassis I have ever seen from any manufacturer. Unfortunately, we had a similar problems with out 2014 Greyhawk 31FS. I have a commercial driver's license and it was scary to drive the Greyhawk and I have driven large commercial trucks. It constantly bottomed out on the rear on even very slight driveway or roadway slopes. The Bigfoot landing jacks would hit even slightly sloped driveways. The steering would not stay centered when driving. The ride was also extremely harsh when hitting road seams.

I changed the following things to resolve the issues:
The alignment was way off (camber and toe) - Jayco Paid for this
The Bigfoot landing jacks were installed incorrectly with too low of clearance to the ground (5" vs. 7" - 8" clearance) (The dealer moved the jacks up one or two adjustment holes) which gave approximately 6 7/8 clearance. I had Hellwig airbags added which brought the clearance up to 7 3/4" at full inflation (100 PSI)
I had a Roadmaster steering stabilizer added to replace the Ford steering stabilizer
I plan on adding a Hellwig front heavy duty front anti-sway bar to replace the Ford version

The changes Jayco and I have made have had a tremendous difference in the drivability of the Greyhawk. It is much more predictable and stable. I drove home I a very strong wind (and rain) storm from the dealer yesterday and even with 65 MPH gusting side winds I was able to control the Greyhawk. The airbags really helped to soften the ride substantially when going over bumps and seams at highway speeds. I was surprised at how much a difference the airbags made to eliminate the "bang" noise when both rear wheels go over a road seam. As soon as I get the front sway bar installed it will help with the front leaning at a different rate from the back when being passed by trucks. If anyone on the forum wants information including part numbers etc. please let me know I am happy to help.

As a side benefit to added a front receiver hitch and spare tire mount, the added weight made handling BETTER. Strange and some may say not good or ugly, but the addition was noticably better. I am seeing a trip to a good front end shop after our first 8000 miles to check alignments. It prpbably needs some tweeking. I have been extremely happy with the 31FS and handling. I understand they now call the components I have the "j-ride" package.

Moonraker, I can't find Bilstein shocks Front 24-187570. Are you sure that's the right number for the front?

Thanks,

Jason

If you go to their website they list the following

Front 33-187570
Rear 33-176840 or 33-176857

Funny though the 33-176840 is listed for and not for a Class C. 33-176857 is the HD version.

Thank you. Is this a pretty straight forward swap? Shocks on cars are an easy job. Will the shocks for steering stabilizer swap present any unforeseen issues?

Took another trip over the weekend and the steering is just all over the place. The basement is pretty empty, but I was towing a Jeep.

Would rear 33-176840 and front 33-187563 work? That's what autoanything.com is telling me.

EShock only goes up to 2011. Think 2012 s the same? I'll email them. Good prices. Thanks,

Jason
