2016 Melbourne generator issue

Thought I would post a problem with my Onan diesel generator or to be correct a problem with the way it was installed. I hardly ever use the generator while on the road so it gets exercised at home in between trips. No problems for a year until after our May trip. It started but only ran for a minute then died. When trying to re-start it I could hear the fuel pump but no joy. I decided to change the air and fuel filter and while the fuel filter was off I checked to see if it was getting fuel and it wasn't. So I thought it was the fuel pump. Took it to Cummins South to have it fixed while the generator was still under warranty. Turns out Jayco plumbed the fuel lines wrong. The return line was connected to the pump and the feed from the tank was plumbed as the return line. I never had issues the first 12 months because when I return from a trip I fill up. After the May trip for some reason I decided not to fill up because I was in between 1/2 and 3/4 tank. Because the return line only sticks down into the tank part way it wasn't getting fuel unless the tank was full. I almost filled up on the way to Cummins south and I wonder if they would have figured it out if I did.

Bottom line check to see if your diesel generator will run around 1/2 tank.

This is good information. Plan on testing it out next week-end, hopefully I got lucky. There seem to be only a handful of 2016+ Melbourne units that have the upgraded diesel generators.
