2017 Jayco MV29 Love it but......

It's brand new and we are heading out to Florida today and the hot water won't work. The service tech tried to help diagnose over the phone but it's beyond what a phone call can help with. It's a Girard Tankless Hot Water Heater. We are getting an E1 Message and a beeping.

I know the techs know what they are doing (to some extent) but I KNOW Jayco Owners know what they are really doing! Has anyone had this exact issue and was the resolution a simple one that we might try or is this a definite case of weeks in the shop when we return and a whole two week trip of cold showers?!

That's a newer generation HWH than many of us have.

Your not going to believe this, we have hot water! I will leave this up in case someone else has the same issue. I found this on (gasp) the Forest River Forum - it came up in a google search.

So bottom line to fix it, hit the igniter Hard With a Hammer!!

this just happened to me too.. brand new unit.

had to hit it pretty hard for it to release.

emailed girard tech support and they confirmed to hit it relatively hard too. got a new valve coming in the mail to replace this faulty one. but in the meantime while i'm on the road, i have a workaround and know what to look for now.

for those that are wondering exactly what to do, the proportional gas valve is the entire unit on the bottom left. the power switch is above it. just get a ball peen hammer, wrench or whatever you have and hit it pretty hard straight down onto it. it's the brass valve with the two round caps on top and one of them has wires going to it. hit both of those fairly hard. you have to jar it loose. you won't hear anything per say, just hit it.. then go try again and you should see the flame icon go on. or if you have a helper, you should see the flame light up if you are right next to the unit.

My father was the classic: "No, no, no - don't force it!!! Just get a bigger hammer."

Our 1960's B&W TV had a dent in the side of it.
It was years before I figured out that RCA didn't ship it that way.

Yep, that was what I was going to tell you. Had the same issue, hammer to the proportional valve gets it working again.
