23' awning on Greyhawk 31FS

My new project is official under way. I am going to remove the factory 10' awning and re locate the rear leg to the very back of the camper. I found a used awning tub on Craigslist for $100. It's 25' long so I'll have to cut it down. Next is to get the new awning material. Carefree sells this awning in lengths that long so I'm not to worried about the legs being able to hold the extra wieght. My only concern is side wall were the awning legs bolt to the coach. I believe it is a mental beam behind the wall behind the side out. That should be a good anchor point. In not sure what the front is bolted into. As for the slide is being in the way it should open and close without hitting the slide out. Once fully extended it will rest on top of the slide. Looks like if I keep the tilt at about half it won't touch at all. I'll update with pictures once it gets going.

I too am interested. Our 31XL has a small awning and we set up another free standing shelter for the dogs. would be so much better to have one big awning.

Sorry for the delay. I took advantage of the awesome weather up here in the northeast. I'm happy so far with this mod. I removed the old 10' tube and then removed the rear bracket assembly. I moved the bracket to the rear of the coach and installed the new tube. I need to fill the 5 holes that held the bracket in its old location. I ordered a 23' awning and if my measurements are correct there should only be 3" of tube visible when the awning is stored. Without the full length awning material I have to push the rear bracket up with a broom to get it to store. I believe this will be fixed once the full length awning is installed. The new tube is slightly smaller in diameter then the stock one. I just used some washers as shims to fill the gap. I'll post more pictures once I get the the new vinyl.

All done. It's a little sluggish at first while closing. Once it has roiled about 12"s up it runs the same speed it did before.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I received the slide topper/awning for that side this morning. If the weather is nice I'll try to install it on Saturday and get some pictures of it. If it goes right the main awning should still go over the slide topper without issue.

how is this modification working out for you? We have the same small awning and are thinking of doing the same.
