Okay. Stopping in Newman tonight and then Redding. I'll look it up and try to find a route.

On the other hand if you did take 97 you could stop and drive up to Crater Lake. Pretty amazing in the winter.

Timbo, I wasn't familiar with Newman, so I looked it up on google. Turns out it's near where my twin lives. Looks like you're making great time. I've been keeping an eye out on your progress. Did you make it to the Grand Canyon or Vegas? I bet no one went swimming in Barstow? Unless it was an indoor pool, I imagine the outdoor pools would be too cold this time of year. Once you get to Redding, the scenery improves dramatically. Driving by Mount Shasta is pretty cool, with some amazing views. After that is Mt. Hood, Mt. Saint Helens and then Mt. Rainier, amongst others. All of them are something to see. Have fun and stay safe.

So we are at an amazing place in Patterson. It's awesome. Kit Fox RV Park is beautifully maintained. Near the beautiful city of Patterson. Right off highway but not too loud. We are leaving early to hit Caverns in Shasta. Staying at Premier RV in Redding. So far this trip is amazing. My wife can't stop looking at Diesel pushers again. Unbelievable experience.

Hey Timbo, good to hear! I think you'll like Premier RV Resort in Redding as well. We stayed 1 night last August on our return trip from the Pacific Northwest. Premier has 3 or 4 parks up that way. We've stayed at 2 others, one on the Oregon coast and one near Eugene. They're all nice quiet parks and the staff are friendly. They had a BBQ going when we passed through Redding, the hamburgers were tasty. I think they were $2 or $3 with all the fixings. Have fun!

Premier parks are definitely nice. We stayed at the one in Clarkston, WA. We had a class A then and were facing the river. Nice park, nice staff, nice location. You'll like it.

Recommend i-205 around portland

Timbo - glad to see y'all are making good progress and enjoying the PCS. Obviously you're traveling via I-5. My alternative routing on US97 had a suggestion you use I-205 around Portland, OR, and also thereby avoiding Vancouver, WA. That suggestion still, I believe, is your best route especially now. Portland's recent inclement weather (including LOTS of ice) and I-5 through the center of Portland is a virtual trainwreck. I-205 East/North, just south of Portland (mile 288) is a bit longer than going directly through Portland, but isn't beset by winding road, steep hills and inner city traffic. I-205 does have considerable traffic, but avoids all the unnecessary aforementioned problems. I-205 also almost completely bypasses Vancouver, WA. Honk when you go through Roseburg, OR (mile 125). Keep the sunny side up. - Jeff

Will do. Sounds like a great suggestion. Took in Shasta Dam today. Amazing. Caverns closed because landslide. Was gonna hang out tomorrow. But they think it won't be open. Will continue on tomorrow and come back for caverns.

Congrats on your arrival! I've seen those Marathons sitting along the I-5 before, way over our budget so we just drool as we drive by.

Great information on this thread. Thank you for your service Timbo. I'm about to embark on a similar journey from Houston to Bellingham, WA.
