7 pin hitch wiring

This '16 Greyhawk 31FK seems to have a 7 pin wiring harness and a 4 pin harness below it. I haven't bought a trailer harness, but I was curious to see if I could figure out the wiring.

I was thinking of adding some back-up lights to the rear bumper and wiring them into the hitch harness.

I went out today with the voltmeter and I couldn't find 12V on any pin combination! 7 pin or the 4. I'm assuming it's wired up, but I guess Jayco could have missed it.

But should I be able to find 12V someplace on the pins? Or is there some other step I have to do to energize the harness?

If it is a FORD you need to have the engine running for any voltages. Also, the relay may not be installed in the fuse compartment under the hood. Usually the relay is in the glove box. Why FORD does not install them is beyond me. On the FORD the center pin is the REVERSE pin.

Let us know what you find

Thanks Don - it is a Ford, E-450. Someone else suggested that they may have left the fuse out. The engine was running, I'll check for the relay and the fuse!

Thanks!

Hi Pconroy,

My 2016 Greyhawk 31FS has the same trailer wiring connector setup as you and mine does have power when the key is on.

Thanks all! I did look in the fuse box, and I *think* the relays and fuses are in. And the engine was running when I tried it. I may try it again.

You should be able to just turn key on ( not start engine ) and put in reverse with parking brake on and pin should be hot when you do this.

Like Mustang said....it is the one in the middle for backup lights.
