A/C kaput
Two days after the above smell from the toilet, I started out the day realizing that my a/c hadn't run in a while and it was getting hot inside, For several days we were used to hearing the unit run almost constantly sun-up to sun-down, Many times in those days I thanked God for the a/c unit.
I played with the controls and heard only a half hearted attempt to run, then after 20 seconds it would quit and then a while later try again.
I first thought that the campground was having a problem, but I checked my power connection and both lights were lit meaning I had both legs from the box.
Next DW and I grabbed our cell phones and started going down the list of rv repair shops. my first call was to CW who is just four miles from me. I was cheerfully told by their tech writer that they could "squeeze" me in on Sept 20th. I explained that we are living in our rv and waiting for our new home to be completed. the person again asked if I wanted the Sept 20 date.
For two hours we got the same answer time after time. NOTHING.
I finally started reading and thinking about other a/c failures I've had over the years and decided to go for the most likely - a bad capacitor. I read on line on how to remove the cover and I crawled up and fried in the 90* sun and pulled the two start caps and found a Grainger's 20 miles away and an hour and a half later they were installed and Me and the DW had the biggest smiles that we have had in years.
I would have been glad to pay a tradesman three hundred for what I did, but they are so backed up and so far behind. I had one shop talk about $1500 - 2000 saying that the unit was probably junk. After laying out $22 for the caps, I couldn't say no to going out to dinner that night, it tasted real good.
