Atwood Combination Gas/Electric Water Heaters

With the issues of the Girard, am wondering about switching out the hot Girard 1st Generation Tankless for the newer Atwood dual gas / electric tanked hot water heater.

Has anyone completed this and have comments on this particular Atwood 10 gal model?

Thanks in advance.

I put a 10-gallon Atwood XT gas/electric unit in my Seneca. I am soooo much happier now! Low flows, no problem like there was with the Girard. And we use free campground electricity to heat the water 90% of the time. Even with multiple people showering we have never exhausted the tank. The XT technology seems to really work as advertised.

The installation was relatively straightforward, but it does require enlarging the external opening. It was painful to take a reciprocating saw to the beautiful paint! I was able to do all the work myself except for painting the Atwood door to match the rest of the coach.

Here is a link to a previous post about my swap:

Happy to answer any questions you might have if you decide to move forward.

I found a picture that shows just the top part of the water heater door after paint, I shot this originally to show the dryer vent I installed.

It was also painful to drill a 4" hole through the paint!

Rob - Again, can't thank you enough.

How about free RV lodging here in Louisiana for Mardi Gras and you knock out a few mods on mine? Looks great.

Thank you....
