Awning lights

Ok I must admit I love lighting. Doesn't matter where or what I want lights!! I been looking on line for ideas for awning light and wow is it expensive. I'm sure yall know some other methods and cheaper. Also how does it attach? Thanks and happy Monday yall!!

For years I used a clear rope light and clipped them to the awning roller with these. Pretty cheap from Amazon - package of 7 for under $5.00.


The rope light fits snugly in the S-hook.

I do pretty much like SCOUTR2 does except I just bought a bag full of short tie wraps...

So if you find a bunch of cut tie wraps at a camp site it was probably me there the night before...

The ROPE LIGHTS are great for us going around the awning on the bottom hidden side. Just the right amount of soft light under the awning. Also don't seem to draw bugs etc...

My rope lights strips are 120VAC (LOWES)

I replaced both sets of our awning lights with these and they work great.
And they're easy to install. I mounted and wired the IR control boxes in the awning mount rails toward the top using the existing 12V power wires, just make sure to mount the box so the retractable arm will clear it when the awning closes. The remote boxes have held up to several heavy rains so far with no issues.

Here you go
I cut off the included plug for the 12Vdc to the IR controller and spliced it
to the existing wiring in the awning mounting rail. You will need to cut the awning rail snap-in cover to fit above and below the box.

Also make sure the small white sensor cord is exposed, that is the sensor receiver for the remote.

Thanks TexasRT! Quite clever! I currently plug/unplug mine when setting up and will definitely make this mod!! Looks very clean and useful with existing wiring.

You may have noticed but make sure you mount the box well above the notch in the base rail, there is a pin in the retractable arm that goes into that notch. I did both my awnings the same way. FYI either remote will work either set of lights.

So this looks like a great idea. My last camper was about 15 years old, so I didn't have much of a problem drilling a hole to get the power inside. But I have not been able to get myself to drill through the 2016 yet. So, you just tapped into the power for the electric awning, right? Mine is electric, but it has the scissor arms. I'll have to pull it out from the side of the house this weekend so I can open it up and look it over.
