Awning question

Have a Carefree of Colorado electric awning on my GH31ss and when I hit the button to extend the awning, the awning responds as expected but the tube portion spins a bit and "dumps" a loop or two of awning fabric similar to spinning a roll of paper towels, etc., (loose wraps on the holder). I then grab the forward most support arms and give it a slight tug, and the awning then extends out as it should. Are the arms in a slight bind, need lubing/cleaning or ???.

I had a carefree on my last RV. Those arms are very strong, so if one is not right I could certainly see that happening. On mine, I had extended the awning a bit so that some rain/snow could run off and dry out when a plastic drive gear decided to shed a tooth. It popped then popped again until it shed enough teeth to fully extended on its own. Fighting those arms back in wasn't a one person job.
Once repaired the awning wobbled and it was found that the techs installed the drive motor end and used new holes for securing it. They then removed it again and fixed that.
I researched buying replacement arms online when we thought that one that lifts the bed was bad. They are available, but many different pressures, etc.

Mine did that once too, I cleaned and lubricated all the movement points on the arms and that resolved the issue. For the pivot parts, I used a light oil, for the sliding parts I used wax.

What did you use to clean to the pivot points?

I used soap and water on everything.

Mine 2011 did that and the shock arms were actually rusted. The awning would not retract correctly resulting in a bent arm. Jayco replaced the arm and shocks under warranty. Now I lube my shocks on the new unit and make sure there is a coat on them upon retraction to keep them functioning correctly.

The carefree shocks are much harder to replace as a result of the way they are attached to the awning arms.

I would lube it up and go in and out a few times to work it in.
