Are you sure that you want to attach the flag pole to the ladder? If it get windy that could add a lot of stress on your ladder supports. Also, if there is a bed in that area at night you may be kept awake by the vibrations transmitted to the ladder by the flag pole.... may not let you get a sound sleep.

If you still want to do it, why not get a length of 1.5" PVC, an end cap and put a couple of "I" bolts through it for the flag and attach the PVC to the ladder.

Another option is a telescoping flag pole like the one at Harbor Freight:
Flag Pole Kit - 20 Ft. Telescoping Flag Pole
You could mount it on the back bumper and attach it to the ladder. Easy to set up and take down.

Or, how about the spinning PVC flag pole?

Just my thoughts,

If you go to the link,

Flag Pole Kit - 20 Ft. Telescoping Flag Pole

you'll read the US Flag, but not the California State flag, is included. Interestingly, Horrible Fright doesn't sell this item in Minnesota. Here's why.

We have been very happy with a Flag Pole Buddy. It attaches to the ladder, which we take down in high winds and at night. It comes in various sizes, is a telescoping fiberglass pole and can fly two flags. They available thru Amazon, camping world and from their site.

I'm going to get the Flag Pole Buddy. Looks good, made in USA and can fly 2 flags. Love the snap in design. Thanks Watt!

Love my Flag Pole Buddy. I have a 15' (ish) pole and fly 2 3x5' flags.
Easy up - easy down and seems very durable.

Don
Had one and it can be a ROYAL PITA to collapse once it gets water in it.
