braking system for towing

Hello again, we have finally realized we need to tow a vehicle behind our 2013 Jayco Melbourne 28F, we have a 2011 Honda CRV that we will be towing. We have purchased the Blue OX Aventa 2 tow bar and are now looking at a braking system, any concerns, tips, advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've had great luck with a "Brake Buddy".

There really is no right answer. I wanted something that could be swapped between cars as I will eventually have two different cars I will tow. I got the RViBrake2 and so far it seems to work fine and is easy to swap between cars. My only concern is it uses the towed vehicles battery to run the air pump. On a long trip I am sure it will drain the battery. I will have to start the car and charge the battery from time to time. Eventually I might install a charge cable from the motorhome to keep the battery charged.

We're having our Blue-Ox Aventa LX-2 installed on our 2015 Seneca 37TS TOMORROW to dinghy tow our 2009 Hummer H3 - nervous... first time we've EVER done this (as we've just moved up from a 5th wheel into a Super C!!). We're getting the RVI Brake 2, which the dealer/installer highly recommended. Don't know too much about it, but will post what I find as I use it... Does anyone else have this system and what have you found?

Have them put a 5 wire plug on the Hummer and connect the hot line from the MH to the TOAD battery and that will keep the battery charged while your towing. I've done that on every TOAD we've had.

RViBrake seeems to work fine on 2000 Focus, manual. The brake/stop/lights are powered from the Precept using a 7 pin to 4 pin adaptor(their is a 4 wire adaptor in the back as well). To date its worked well.

I use the RViBrake also. Never have had an issue running down the toad battery, but I am not sure how often it engages. It may help a little, but mostly it makes me legal.

X2 I tow a 2012 Focus Automatic, which requires disconnection of the car battery, so I bought a "Jump-start" battery system at Wally-world and belt that into the front seat. It does not seem that the iBrake system is activated that often (only on moderate to hard braking or fairly steep downgrades), so I bet it does not run the battery too much.

Make sure you weigh your Seneca and your Hummer fully loaded for a trip. Senecas have a 10K hitch and rating however it is vastly more complicated than it would seem. The Seneca has a 28,000# GVWR with a 33,000# GCWR. If you do the math between those numbers you will find that is only 5,000#. The Seneca has an Allison MH 2500 transmission and an ISB 340 Cummins engine. The GCWR is limited by the MH 2500 transmission. You won't be able to fully load your Seneca and still tow - even flat tow your Hummer. If you use common sense and don't go over your GCWR, GVWR or GAWR you will be just fine. Just remember NEVER BACK UP while connected to your toad!
