We got a catalytic heater for tent camping some years ago.. Runs off a 1 lb propane bottle. By Coleman.
I'd think you would be OK especially if your unit like ours has a CO detector.. Man is that thing loud

We like it - it hasn't given us any trouble once we learned a few of the quirks. Obviously it's suspect for boondocking but when hooked to city water and sewer it's fun.

A couple of tricks we learned: don't use a pressure reducer (or don't use a cheap one). I had all sorts of problems when I used an inexpensive Camco one.

Learn where the reset button is. IIRC there's ONE Youtube video out there where he shows you the undocumented reset button. I've had to push mine several times over the course of the summer.

Not sure why, not sure what triggers a reset, but it happens.

Oh - I assume you'll have a Gen II Girard water heater. If you have a Gen III then be aware that there's a recall/service bulletin out for the solenoids on the Gen III.

I *think* the easiest way to tell Gen III is that you'll have a digital control panel. If you have a knob in the lavatory, then I'll bet you've got a Gen II like ours.

Pconroy, I will look for the video on the reset button. As far as the h2o heater, we must have the Gen III because there is no knob in the bathroom and the controller is digital. Will know for sure on Friday when I do the PDI.

Yep - you're Gen III - so no reset button.
There's a different reset procedure.

But now you need to check to see if the solenoids have been replaced. There was a thread on here about it with pictures.

Good luck on the PDI!
