Deep Cycle Group 24/27 Battery Replacement
Hey Gang,
Just wondering what you guys have settled on regarding the above? I have a no-name battery in my rig so I figure it'll be do for replacement anytime now. Is there a preferred brand/make for a deep cycle group 24/27?
I'm not interested in 6v/golf cart batteries as I do not boondock. Ever.

I need a new Group 24 battery for our new TT, I will be purchasing the best deep cell battery from Farm and Fleet. I do not recall the product number, but it is their most powerful Group 24 deep cell which has a two year warranty and the first year is direct replacement.

If it is just for the TT with no dry-camping the standard size 24 RV/Marine Interstate or equivalent is fine. Stick with a name brand in case you have a battery issue.

For what you describe for usage, any deep cycle, dual purpose battery will work for your MH. A cheaper group 24 would be fine.
What you need is a little 12V power for when you stop for lunch, or for when the power goes out at camp, and so forth.
Deep cycle batteries typically do not have much of a warranty due to the way they expect them to be used. Because of the lack of warranty coverage, to me brand is not all that important.
Key to good battery life, is to check the fluid levels every few months, and top off with DISTILLED water only. If the battery is well maintained and not abused with deep discharges you should get at least 4 years of good life and possibly up to 7 years.

I only use my battery on its own to deploy my levelers when I arrive to camp. I keep a eye on the water level, and my rig is plugged in once every 4-6 weeks for 2 days minimum. Much more when used obviously.
I'd be upset if the battery died this early, but like I said it IS a no-name.

Do you disconnect the battery while it is not being used? Sitting for 4-6 weeks unplugged between uses will definitely kill your existing battery and any new battery you install.
If you never boondock then I would not waste money on a top brand battery. Head to Costco or Walmart and get any G24 or G27 battery that is on sale.

I have to unplug as the storage area I have has no power. I use the battery disconnect and let the motorhome sit until I can go grab it for maintenance.
My gauges in the rig usually show it at 3/4. If they are accurate at all.

Is it a factory installed battery disconnect? I don't have a motorhome but I have heard that due to liability reasons the factory disconnect doesn't really disconnect everything. I think the propane and CO detectors are still powered.
Have you checked the battery voltage after it has sat for 6 weeks? Is it still at the 3/4 level?

What he said ^^^ ... and, IMO, killing a new or fully charged battery will take less than 4 weeks.

I've never checked the voltage beyond the little indicator thing I have in my coach. I've also never *not* had power when I arrived to drive her home for maintenance. My lights have always turned on, my stairs always retracted, etc. I've never been hung out doing it this way for going on 3 years now.
When I arrive at camp, I always have enough juice to deploy my levelers w/o issue prior to plugging in.

Worth checking with a multimeter the next time you pick up your MH. You may notice that your battery still has a charge but maybe it is below 12 volts (50%) which will shorten its life.
Although a beeping CO or propane alarm usually coincides with that.
Something is off though if you are replacing a 2015 battery already.

I'm not replacing it I'm just wondering what I should be shopping for when the time comes. When I topped off the water in it last month I noticed it was a no-name - so naturally I'm wondering how long it'll last and when I should proactively think about replacing it.

"Interstate" offers a nice selection of deep cycle batteries for RV usage..., mine are going on 5 years old and still providing great performance.

Went to Sam's Club today to check out the prices on a 'AGM' Deep Marine battery vs a Lead plate battery being like you Jopopsy, just wondering.
Lead Plate = $97.00
AGM = $179

I did go the two 6v. golf batteries, the big thing for me is the batteries gassing- whatever it's called when plugged in all the time at our RV spot at home...causing corrosion of metal tray they sit in., even though they seem to never neeed additional water., had I put in AGM batteries they are totally sealed and never need water added so I am led to believe., nor would the corrosive gassing occur.,which would be worth the extra cost possibly.
The only way to disconnect my batteries is to turn off the convertor at the fuse box located at end of bed in our 2015 29mv, so when I read Japopsy saying he turns off the battery dis-connect switch, what switch is that ? I wonder...
