Ford E-450 6.8L V10 - Trans Cooler

Friends

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. In the description of my rig it says "Transmission w/Oil Cooler". I guess that is what would be called a transmission cooler. Is that correct?

Last weekend when going to Gatlinburg we were climbing some of the mountains and it tried to kick into OD on me and i heard the fan really kicking hard so i backed way off and just kept it at 3-3.2 rpms and that seemed to alleviate it. I don't have a gauge on it to tell tran temp but i am betting it blew by 200.

I would really like to upgrade both my tran cooler and my air intake. Would it be worthwhile to look into? What are some suggestions?

That's correct, it's an auxiliary cooler. Looks like a small radiator in front of the engine radiator. Lines from your trans carry oil to the radiator, then the cooler and finally back to the transmission. The tranny cooler on your E Series is more than adequate for the job. There's no need to upgrade. Now, as far as intake. Yes, I'd upgrade to a fresh air intake system like a K&N filter charger. The more the engine breaths, the better. You'll really notice a difference in the winter. Cold air injected into the throttle body creates an increase in horsepower.

Thank you much. I appreciate that input/advice. Just want to be sure. Gotta take care of my baby. I also see i have a Closed air intake system. Any advantage to "upgrading" that?

"I don't have a gauge on it to tell tran temp but i am betting it blew by 200."

How do you know?...

I always wondered what my trans temp was doing while towing/plowing.
I do have a trans temp gauge but its not very accurate, more like an idiot light.

So I purchased "Dashcommand" for my iPad (available iOS or android).($9.99)

I set this gauge cluster myself under the custom section.

You will also need to purchase the wifi OBDll adapter to plug into your E-450.($15)

Then you will need to purchase (in app purchase) the ford "pids" for your truck in order to receive data from the trans tempature sensor. As well as all the other sensors($20)

The gauge is very accurate. You can see it climbing one degree at a time so you can make adjustments in driving.

I think it's worth the $. Also you can see engine codes, and reset them too!

NOW you all have peaked my interest. I am a programmer by trade and I love this stuff. Honestly friend I was guessing just by the noise the fan was making. I'm just trying to be proactive instead of the guy saying "oh, i thought it would be fine!". ya know?

I'm going to check out Dash Command. Thanks a ton.

I have the adapter in my amazon cart. With regard to the ford "pids" what app is it that I do the "in app purchase" with. Is it the "Dash Command" app?

Make sure you get the obdll adapter with wifi if you have an iOS device. The Bluetooth one works with android only.

Roger that ... I just put this one in my cart:
https://www.amazon.com/ELM327-Wirele..._cd_al_qh_dp_i

Hopefully last question and i'll stop bugging you .. :-)
It mentions it works on vehicles up to 2015. Is this just a description thing and was last updated in 2015 or does it exclude 2016. My RV sits on a 2016 E-450 chassis.

Not bugging me at all. You should be fine with the 2016. I don't think they made any changes to obdll.
You could have a issue with the ford PIDS for a 2016. They might not be out yet.
Although I dont think they changed much from previous years.

Good luck

I've got a generic ELM327 based OBD2 dongle in my pocket. I've been playing with it during this trip. I use Torque, a popular OBD2 app on my Android.

If there are specific E450 PIDs, I've not been able to google them up yet. But there's plenty of data coming from the standard ones.

The standard one are pretty good I agree. Idk if you can get the advanced pids for free anywhere.

This is what Dashcommand offers for $20
