Question Fresh Water Fill advice

Hi all,

I am new to motorhomes and the fresh water fill where you fasten a hose to the water intake to fill the fresh water tank. With my trailer, you just put a hose in the water fill hole and when it overflows - you know it's full.

My question is how you know when the tank is full: We have done it a couple times and watched the fresh water tank light until it read "full", but those sensors are notoriously inaccurate. If I just let the water run, is there an overflow valve/spigot that will allow the water to run out to the ground when the tank is full - so as to get the maximum amount of water in the tank?

All help appreciated.

Joe

Joe,

I have yet to hear that any fresh water tank didn't come with an overflow drain, but if you find out otherwise please come back and let me know.

Bob,

Me either, but I would hate to find out the hard way...

The overflow is not really an overflow but a vent to let air in so that the tank will no get negative pressure and not be able to have the water flow. All the tanks have them.

Thanks for the info. That explains the result I got when I just let it run last week at a campground: it just ran out from a wide area midway along the bottom of the RV.
