Fueling problems - anyone else?

Make him put it in writing that he'll pay the difference from what it really gets.

Now mine is an old one. 2000 28'er with 23k on it. Not even with a tailwind, and downhill both ways. 8-10 is more like reality. Of course I run mostly at 4k to 5k feet altitude.

If yours gets 14 I want to know where you live and what brand of gas you use.

Try some injector cleaner, then change your fuel filter. My injectors got dirty at about 16-17k miles. Mileage went down to about 6mpg. Added a bottle 16oz of acetone to about 40gallons of gas. Took it down to 10 gallons remaining before refueling. 60gallons later I was back up to 8-9 mpg. This was on a trip to Canada from Colo. ... I still need to replace my fuel filter. Didn't have a spare or the tool to do it with.

Our 2011 31DS is no problem to fuel, we get 8.5-9.0 MPG. Lots of mountain passes and such here in the Northwest, which doesn't help.

I used 10% ethanol mixture for the first time in Washington state when I went there to pick up my TT. Their fuel prices were 10 cents a gallon higher and my mpg was slightly lower. I don't think my pickup ran as well.

I am wondering if some of the slow fueling problems are caused by the EPA regulations. Some of the stations, not in Montana or Wyoming, have those sealing gaskets when you fuel. I think CA is the worst. The pump won't run unless it is totally sealed off with the gasket.

Hi everyone it's my first post as i just joined this forum. I have a Jayco Escapade 31A 2003 and love it. Has served my wife and i with little problems. On the thread of filling the gas tank i have found that if you can manage to have the front of the unit lower by just a little bit it fills rather well. I think the reason i and many have problems is that the filler tube is to small and rather far from the tank and to near level. It's just something we have to live with i guess. By the way it still beats the H double L out of tents. Denny

Our 2010 31ss has the same problem. Had the dealer and others look at it. No kinks in the vent hose. I was told that if it gets over filled the vent gets fuel in it. I have had it not give me trouble at times. The best way to fuel faster is to turn the handle up and hold it there while filling. Some what of a pain but it does work.

It is always the vent tube, find the kink and straight it out and all will flow correctly.

I agree.. 10mpg is really REALLY good and I don't get that often. Usually closer to 8

I have a 2013 Redhawk and have the same refueling problems. I will have to check if the vent hose is kinked or twisted. We get between 8 and 9 with no toad. Just bought a Honda Fit and have it set up to be towed but haven't had a chance yet.

I had the same problem for a few years and I could not figure it out either. Then the tread ripped off the inside tire and took out the gas line to the fuel tank. I mean everything, big hose , little hose, well protectors. etc. Really did a number. Of course I could not go anywhere that way so I jury riged the hoses until I could get home, (1100 miles away) and there it was all replaced by someone other than a Jayco serviceman. I then noticed that the tank would fill up all the way with no problem. So the solution is to have the hose ripped off in the middle of the Mojive desert just as it is getting dark, and well, you don't have to go that far but you get the idea. Goo Luck

Got the same issue. Seems worse in hot weather but not completely sure of that. Depends on the gas station also, sometimes with a quarter of a tank full it won't take any at all, other times will only fill to three quarters full. Was a real pain traveling in Alaska year before last, you want a full tank every chance you can get. Sunday in Quartzite tried to top off at the Love's, only took half of what it should, gauge showed down an eighth.

Had my mechanic look at it and he didn't find any reason for it except that the fill is not at the top of the tank, it is on the side about halfway down.

I wonder if the vapor recovery system is choking? This is a 2004. I'll have him check that next time.

I have not fixed any motorhomes for slow filling problems, but i have fixed 100's of cars and trucks. Every time i hear that complaint it has been the Evap Vent Valve. Have your shop replace it and it should take care of the slow fill problem.

My 2011 Melbourne 28F has the same problem. I crawled under it and found the vent hose was crimped due to poor installation. I uncrimped it and all was good. I also found that the ground from the filler neck to the frame was loose.

Check the vent hose Ive seen a few cars with spider webs built up inside of it which blocks the air flow causing the pump to shut off as you fill up. I guess for some reason spiders like the smell of gas.

Not to get too far off track but do any of you guys have a locking gas cap on your fuel tank? If so, is there a "special" type? or just a regular old locking gas cap ?

13.1 MPG last trip from Bar Harbor to Calais, ME., pulling my Jeep. Gotta drive smart ! Speed up a little before going up hill. 70% of the time I am at 2000 RPMs, 20% at 2500 and 10% over 2500. Got 15.1 MPG from Bangor to Bar Harbor a week earlier. I was pretty pleased. Not running with AC either. I suppose down South you would have no choice !
