Greyhawk 31FK weight?

I do intend to weigh our 31FK while loaded for a trip, but until I get the opportunity, I was wondering if anyone has weighed theirs? If so, how was it loaded? Water and gas tanks filled? Propane level? How many passengers? Pantry full? Rear storage full? Did you get only a total or a per axle weight?

Thanks for any info.

I would weigh it like you plan to use it.

For me it would be fully loaded with water, gas, propane and whatever I would normally carry including people.

I weighed my 2012 Greyhawk about a year ago. Loaded and ready to go with wife and I on board. Full fuel, propane, food, and 1/3 water. 13,580#. I did not weigh by axle, but will do that next time.

Greyhawk, it is a 2012 Greyhawk 3100 SS. The 13,580 scale weight was about what I had expected. I had previously weighed everything I put on board and added that amount to the sticker that is inside the drivers side door, that says what the gross weight was when it left the factory, and that total was really close to the scale weight.

I was wondering does the Greyhawk have a weight sticker from the factory? I'd like to know what the 29MV or 31 actual weights from the factory is. Is the 2015 higher? it is on a 14,500lb/22,000 lb chassis.

the sticker on my 2012 Greyhawk is inside the drivers side door. I will try to attach a picture of it, but I'm not very tech savvy so not sure it will work.

In case it doesn't come thru, what is says is the vehicle when it left the factory, full of fuel and propane, but no water was 12,151# and that there is 2,349# left for occupants, "stuff" and water.

With the wife and I in it and the stuff we camp with, and fuel tanks full, minimal water in tanks, it weighed 13,580# on a commercial scale.

That is great, thanks so much for this... 2349 ccc is just fine for most folks and I do apperciate your information. a picture tells a thousand words...

I wonder if this has changed for 2014 or 2015? I"m going to pull some specs from 12 -15 and see if I can come up with a chart.. Was the 2012 built on a 22,000 chassis or 20,000lb?

How would I know if the chassis is 20,000# or 22,000#?

In your photo labeled 03 it shows your weight as 19,500.. still a good chassis but it looks ilke they upped it in 2013 to 22,000 Just look at your yellow stickers it tells the weight there... I"m not sure if Jayco leaves the chassis plate on the cab, perhaps in the drivers side door ...

Tom, if you go to Jayco website, look down at the very bottom on the right site, you will see brochures and archives.. you can click on that, find your year, model and download the brochure for the model you have.. by the way, what model do you have?

Curious, what did they do to get 22,000? Rig is still 14,500 and towing capacity is still listed as 5,000.

The reason for the 22,000# GCWR is Ford upped the capacity of the E-450 chassis. Jayco (Actually Mor-Ryde) butt welded a frame extension onto the end of the Ford frame and then attached the 500# / 5,000# hitch onto that extension. It is very weak and cannot take anymore weight than that. There are shops that do "sub-frame beefups" that bolt onto the Ford Factory Frame and to the Jayco weak frame rail extensions. Then technically per the 22,000# Jayco chassis rating you can safely tow up to 7,500#. However there are other considerations. First you cannot exceed your GAWR or GVWR i.e. you can't have 750# tongue weight and still carry a lot of cargo in your rig. If you are using a weight distributing hitch you may be ok if you have available GVWR. Another consideration is regardless of the Jayco GCWR they WILL VOID ALL WARRATIES on your unit if you do this type of modification. This means if the front TV fails and you have upgraded your rear hitch they won't pay for anything. The person at Jayco Celina Tyler who manages the warranty claims does not own and RV and does not RV at all. Bottom line if you are out of Jayco's warranty you can do it and Ford will still warranty the chassis and driveline. You will also be fine and legal by DMV and all law enforcement. I would caution doing while under Jayco's warranty.

Michael, Good Points and you are correct, Ford did beef up the e450 chassis and from what it looks on the brochures it is in the 2013 model year. And so far I really have not seen a tow weight on any Jayco brochures.. but I believe the receiver is a 5,000lb/500lb receiver. Matter of fact all of the other 29' and above Class C's usually have the 5,000 lb tow.

I don't what this to become an issue only a comment.. only reason I brought it up is when we were out looking at motorhomes it was pointed out to us that the Sunseeker and Forester models on the Ford Chassis claims (and warranties) the 7500lb/500lb hitch so I called their warranty department to confirm and they said they modify the chassis in their Coachman plant to have the 7500lb/500lb hitch and Ford is fully aware of it... The only reason that it caught my eye is because of our horse trailer (which weights about 3,000-3500 lbs and the horse are about 900lbs each (Arabians) . We would like the ability to take them locally to some horse camps... but honestly that is not a deal breaker for us. My wife and I own a 2013 Jayco 26rks and love it, but we want to take some longer trips and we feel a MH might be more comfortable to make the trip over the trailer... We plan to keep the TT as well.

I find it hard to find specs on the Jayco line, it is like pulling teeth one at a time :-) but were working our way through it.. were not in a hurry.. fortunately we would not have any time until February to start camping again... that gives us lots of time to look and ask questions.

I have been reading about the Class A as well, nice unit but I'm not sure I want to deal with the "Wondering and steering" steering issues folk deal with on that (and most A) coaches.

Thanks for your input.. do you happen to know if with the increase in chassis what that does to the CCC of the Greyhawk? Does the CCC jump 2000 lbs?
Dave

I see what you mean (I think). I looked at the Brochure for the 2015 Greyhawk and then for the 2012 Greyhawk and they do say the combined weight rating on 2012 and 2013 is 19,500, but on 2015 it's up to 22,500. Not sure why or if there is any difference. Maybe they just changed the number. But in either case, the max GVW is the same, 14,500 for both. In my case it doesn't really matter, as the additional would only allow me to tow something heavier than 5,000#. Right now my toad weighs 4,100# and I am always on the hunt for something I would like that weighs less. I would like to keep the toad weight down closer to 3,000 to 3,500. But I am curious if this increased combined weight is just a different number or if there is something structurally different.

Tom, looking at your weight and how much CCC you have you are fine.. Like others have said, Ford just beefed up the chassis in 2014 and I'm not sure what that does for CCC on the unit ... yes, the GVW of 14,500 is the same and on Jayco it does not increase the tow capacity (from what looks it is still 5000 lbs) it has to do with how much you can carry I guess.

How well does your unit pull the 4100 lbs... that is alot. Our last motorhome we pulled a Jeep wrangler which is very light. There are many light Toads available.. for us it's just my wife.. so a small car would be fine.. heck even a little smart car would work for me :-)

What model of the Jayco do you have?

I have owned both a class A and a Greyhawk. The Class A is by far easier to drive hands down. I just drove in nasty winds that would have been white knuckle with my Greyhawk even with the Reflex Steering Stabilizer.

For the 2015 Greyhawk units the CCC is actually decreased a bit. I saw a sticker on one I looked at that was about 1600#. When you add water you will have even less.

The doorframe sticker in our 2014 31FK says the weight at the factory with full gas and LP tanks was 12,571 lbs. All water tanks and cargo compartments were empty.

With a GVWR of 14,500 lbs. that leaves 1,929 lbs. for water, cargo, passengers and the tongue weight of any trailer or toad. That's not much but we will manage.
