Greyhawk Fire

On Christmas Eve, 2016 my 2013 Greyhawk 31FS caught fire while parked in a campground. Thankfully, we were not there but our cat perished. The RV was a total loss. The fire inspector said the ignition point was located under the sofa in the slide-out just behind the driver seat. We have been on the road for a month and have had no issues before this nor have we had any electrical done in that area. The RV was set-up and stable for 7 days before the incident.

I have been told that it was likely due to a pinched wire in the slide-out and probably a manufacturing defect. Does anyone have any similar experience with this and/or have any ideas how I should proceed?

Very sorry to hear about your coach. Glad to hear your family is safe. I'm not an investigator, but electrical and electronics I know quite well. Was the wire you talk about in your slide out directly connected to your battery? It seems to me, that if it were a wire from your slide out, or other system, in that part of your rig, if powered through the power center, should have been over current protected with a fuse. Hope all goes well with the investigation and replacement of your rig.

It's going to be an insurance claim.

As MFalcon said, both the 12v and 110 outlets (if any) are fused or have breakers so if it was caused by a pinched wire then either the fuse or breaker failed. JAYCO has no control over either one.

Sorry for your loss, sure hope they figure out what happened, as stated that circuit should of been protected. Be interesting what caused it. Glad family was not hurt.
