Greyhawk incorrectly installed automatic leveling jacks
Greyhawk incorrectly installed automatic leveling jacks. In many Greyhawk motorhomes with automatic leveling jacks installed the jacks are installed too low. This can cause the jacks to bottom out on the ground causing frame and or jack damage. The jacks should be installed with "7 - 8" of clearance to the ground per the installation manual from Quadra manufacturing. Jayco installed many jacks with as little as 4" or clearance. If you have not already bottomed out on the jacks yet the solution is simple. The dealer needs to move the jacks mounting bolts up by one or more adjustment points. If the motorhome has been bottomed out on the jacks then the frame should be checked and or the jacks replaced. Please see the photos for an incorrectly installed rear leveling jack. Please note in the photos the bent limit switch pins. Also please note the leaking hydraulic fluid.

Interesting Michael, I have seen a few Class C units that had leveling jacks installed and too me, they seem quite low... My fear would be going off road of any extent or a boondock type of set up... I sure would hate to sheer these levelers off with a rock or piece of wood left on the site. I"m sure that would not be covered by the warranty.

I negotiated the leveling jacks as part of the deal when getting the Gray Hawk. I did notice the rear ones were hanging down to low. I raised them two bolt holes and they seem a lot better. I did notice that one of the bolts on each one was now very close to the hydraulic line so I cut about 3/4 inches off those bolts. The front ones are so close to the tires that I can't see them hitting anything.

I noticed that my levelers appeared too low also. Couldn't even put it in driveway as it scraped the concrete when attempting to back up. This confirms my suspicion.
Now the decision to take it in and him them do it and wait a few weeks (under warranty) or just do it my self out of convenience and expediency

I could have brought it in to get them raised, but being a hands on person, and knowing I would do it right I raised them while parked on the driveway. Laid on a piece of cardboard, only needed one combination wrench as the bolts were welded on. Had a small jack ready, but didn't need it as the units weren't heavy at all. Took less than an hour.

No problems pinching the hydraulic lines ?
In any case, thanks for the update.

Just the one bolt being close to the hydraulic line as I mentioned.

You may need to have the system recalibrated if you do it yourself.

Nope, still puts the RV back to level just like it did before.

My 2016 Greyhawk had the rear jacks mounted at 5.75" of ground clearance. Equalizer Systems recommends 7" to 8" of clearance. I moved the jacks one bolt hole up and now have 7".
Thanks for the inputs,
- James

Good news: The Marx bothers assisted by Moe, Larry and Curley have left Jayco.
The bad news: They are now consulting at NASA.

The manufacturer specs were brought to my attention by someone on the forum last year after I could not get my rig into the driveway. My rears were at 6.5".
I went to my dealer with the specs and they raised them up while I had it in for some other warranty work. I can now carefully creep into my driveway without bottoming out.

We purchased our '16 Grey hawk 29MV last week. I found this site and went out and measured my Stabilizer jacks. All four jacks have a ground clearance of only 6.5 inches. Adjusting the rear jacks would be easy with all the adjustment clearance available.
Although the front stabilizer jacks have the needed adjustment holes, there is no clearance at the top edge of the jack frame. Moving the jacks to the next hole will hit some framing up above.
I'm considering having the dealer move the rear jacks for the 7" clearance. I intend to carry some stabilizer blocks. So I know I would need to have two inches more in blocks for the rear as compared to the front.

I raised the rear stabilizer jacks yesterday. Very easy job, took about 30 minutes. Now have about 7 1/2 inch clearance. The jacks leveled the RV the same as they did before moving them. No calibration required.

Levelers Drag - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
My brand new 2017 Greyhawk 29W has had a number of problems one of which was dragging levelers. The jacks would scrape quite a bit, couldn't even go in my driveway without gritting my teeth when the jacks kissed the ground.
Thanks to this forum I found out that the jacks are still being installed too close to the ground. Like others I researched the manufacturer's specs and found the minimum clearance of 7". Mine were only 6" off the ground.
I moved all jacks up one mounting hole and now have a tad over 7" of clearance which stopped the driveway scrapes.
You would think Jayco would have read the specs by now since apparently this has been going on for some time. Never assume something has been installed correctly would be a good T-shirt saying in this instance.
Thank you for solving my problem!

I just brought my 2017 home last week, and was worried about this issue from the get go. I had a slight scrape once but doesn't seem any apparent damage. One thought that went through my mind was perhaps the jacks are closer to spec with an unladen rig. Add all that weight makes then a lot closer. I'm going to adjust mine asap. I was particularly worried about hitting those speed bumps that seem to be everywhere now shopping centers etc. With just a quick look see it appears one of the jacks will hit a fill pipe if I try and move it any further. I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks for the info. I thought mine seemed a bit low and I had visions of bottoming out and the damage it could do. Will be checking mine.
