GVWR GCWR hitch weight and overweight?

I have a 2004 Granite Ridge 3100SS (kind of a tricked out Greyhawk) on a Ford 450 chassis. The GVWR for the Ford is 14050 lbs. On the 31 foot RV that leaves about 20 pounds to play with when I have a full tank of gas.
Does anyone know what the GCVR would be? How much can I tow?
Also how do you determine the weight on the hitch if you're towing a vehicle behind an RV? I would guess that needs to be added to the GVW.
If you have a 31 foot Class C on a Ford 450 chassis how do you get people, food and fuel on the road without being overweight?

All depends on the rig.

I am buying a 2015 Greyhawk. It has 2089 pounds of cargo available after fuel and propane. 1270 pounds of that is on the rear axle.

I bailed on the exact same floor plan 2 years ago because it had 1620 pounds TOTAL.

Like I said, some rigs have a lot more play than others.

And yes, hitch weight gets added to the rig's cargo weight, thus reducing your carrying capacity.

That is the dis-advantage of most all class C's. Weight carrying capacity.

Specifically, tongue weight gets added. If you're towing a vehicle with all four wheels on the ground, there is virtually zero tongue weight added.

GCWR should be posted somewhere in/on your vehicle. If you can't find it I would try calling or emailing Jayco for that information…it is critical.

On my ex-class A the brakes, then the shocks, were the limiting factors. Suspect your class C would be the same. Overloading the brakes means longer stopping distances.

My Seneca came with a statement that said the brakes are designed for GVWR, not GCWR. Definitely need a supplemental brake in the toad.

Last weekend I went to go look at the Greyhawk for the very first time. I have been doing my research online but it was time to meet one in person,
I have read that you can tow up to 7500 lbs but when I looked at the hitch, it was a 5000 lb hitch. Do the 2016 models only tow 5000 lbs? I had asked the salesperson and he verified 5000 lbs but even the brochures say 7500 lbs towing. The hitch on that Greyhawk was a class lll. Your thoughts?

Olga, somewhere you will see a statement that says specs are subject to change so you have to go with documentation that is provided with your vehicle. If it says the hitch is limited to 5,000 lbs then that's it. In the event that you do go over and have an accident, the lawyers will have fun at your expense. Warrantees may be voided etc. Some will say there is plenty of safety factor in the limits but I am not wiling to bet a lawsuit on it.
