Help ID this item
Hello everyone it's been a while. I found this tool on the GreyHawk 2004 27'. Is it a stabilizer of some sort. I'm baffled. Thanks for looking.

It's a travel bar for your slide-out. It holds your slide-out in the closed position while traveling so it doesn't accidentally "slide out" while you're underway. Here's what it looks like when in place.

It just sits between the top of your slide and the wall near the ceiling when your slide is 'IN'. You probably have a sticker on the wall near the ceiling where to place it. Keeps it from walking out on you.
One caution is to be sure you remove it before operating the slide out otherwise you will possibly destroy your wall...

Actually they are quite useful if you ever need them, like when your slideout won't stay in. I made some from PVC and crutch tips and keep them stored in a cubby hole of my rig. They have come in handy twice.

I do think the brace is a good idea and I wonder how often this happens. Are we talking older units, all units and why are they not standard Equiptment. Does the slide just inch out mile by mile or does it just start rolling. Now you got me thinking because some of the roads I travel there is no place to pull over for miles and miles like between the 101 and the 1 north of San Francesco to the north coast and through the Red Woods.

My rig is less than 4 years old and I have used them . Usually the gearbox will strip a gear or some bolt will strip and then the mechanism that prevents the slide from moving will be inoperative.
Older units from some manufacturers would come with them but as they perfected the mechanics, they did not provide them anymore.
I need 3 different lengths on my rig, so I made them with unions that allow me to only carry 2 sections. One for each slideout end. I can make them any length I need, supposing that I will never have more than one slide problem at a time.

Well you guys have some great info. Yeah Norty ours is a 2004 GreyHawk I'm thinking the system has been upgraded as you mention, so I'm thinking of not carrying it. I asked my buddy who has a newer rig with to slide out and he has straps. He forgot to release the straps on an outing and almost broke something, he'll never use them again. Thanks again for all the help.
