How to bypass water filter in 2015 Melbourne
The instruction manual for both the motor home and water filter don't say much about how to bypass the filter for winterizing and there doesn't seem to be any bypass hose supplied in my kit when I bought it new last summer.
It is a cartridge with housing under the sink. There are inline shutoff valves on either side of the filter. I assume these cutoff the line completely so you wouldn't want them turned off for winterizing.
What is the best practice for how to blow out the lines with a cartridge filter like this?

Your supposed to remove the filter and fill the canister with antifreeze

I removed the water lines from the filter assembly and made a bypass hose.

Mine came with a short section with the correct hose connections. If you can't find it in the rig just make one with regular hose connectors .

I winterize with air so I just remove the filter, dump out the water, and put the filter back in.

Yep, me 2. Hose and connections were found at the hardware store. By having a bypass, you can run antifreeze throughout the system.

I certainly would not store a used water filter over winter and then use it again the next year.
I would suggest removing the filter, tossing it, and inserting a new filter in the spring.

When we found out the cost of that filter we left it bypassed and piped in a whole house filter at the inlet.
These filters are less than 1/3 the cost and much easier to change.

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. I'd prefer to eliminate the filter because I use the air method and want to winterize and un-winterize quite a bit over the winter. Since I'm not finding a bypass hose, can you clarify what fittings they are and how long the hose is.

my relative recently had a new refrigerator delivered. She used the ice maker and through the door water for about 3 days before I installed the filter for her. The unit came with a straight through dummy filter unit installed from the factory. It may be worth checking to see if such a dummy unit is available for your filter setup. It will save piping changes.

Just as a follow up, I purchased the shortest bypass hose I could find (a camco one) that had straight in line male fittings for each end and bypassed the filter. The pex had enough give in it that it worked. It would have been nice to have a shorter hose, maybe 4 inches but it ended up working fine and I'll just probably keep it bypassed.
