I-8 Yuma AZ to San Diego CA

Yuma AZ to San Diego and back. Anyone drive this route in a Seneca towing a Jeep? If so how well did the Seneca handle the steep grades. I will be going west bound and a week later back east bound.

Grade is not all that steep. I've not pulled an RV but have ridden that stretch a number of times on the Harley and never felt there was much of a grade, really only one hill along the way.. Most is desert, sand, and lots of nothing..

We have taken a few trips towing our Toyota FJ on a trailer and were just under the 33k weight limit. I would not worry about any grade... The Seneca has plenty of power to get up. The only thing I have left to consider while choosing a route - is how tight the switch-backs are since we are 68 feet long overall.

I remember the only real grade was coming out of the deserts into San Diego and visa versa..However it has been several years since I made that trip.

I don't recall any issues.

"There are four "summits" on the road in succession. Headed west the first climb up is listed as 9 miles at 6% and the last run down is 13 miles listed as 6% in the Mountain Directory. In between the summits it is up and down between 4 and 6%.

There is a strong crosswind warning for this section also.

I driven this but it was years ago. I remember a long climb up because I was having diesel power issues and even though about disconnecting the toad - but we made it with the toad attached. We were headed to Cummins in El Cajon."

The curves are more sweeping, than hairpin. I don't think the speed limit ever goes below 55.

we pulled our 5er on that stretch 3 years ago and the grades were not too bad but the 5 miles prior to hitting the bottom of the mountain Westbound is the roughest 5 miles of interstate I have ever been on. Broke a few glasses in our rig on that stretch.
