Jayco 29D mileage???

I am interested in the realistic mileage I can expec t from this unit. It has the Ford V10 engine. Any input from actual owners on a 2011 will be appreciated. Also, what grade of gasoline is recommended by Ford. Thank you in advance for any and all information.

Well we have a 2011 31ss (same weight as the 29d) and get between 8 and 9 average and have only used regular.
We installed a Scangauge II with hopes that it teaches me how to use the gas petal with less force. I would recommend it to everyone that has a MN.

Thanks for the information. I am hesitant to trade my 2010 Jayco Precept with the Mercedes chassis/engine. Last year, I averaged 14.2 MPG on a Canadian trip. This year on a trip to Elkhart, IN, I averaged 17.2 MPG. I am suspicious that I may have lost a fuel ticket in my computing. The Mercedes engine is rated for 18 MPG. BUT, I believe that is the van configuration, absent from a M/Home body. Enjoy your new 29D and let us know how you like it. Thank you

Recently completed trip from Miami to Ontario in Jayco 29D towing Mazda Tribute 4 down. Overall average was 9.2 MPG. (best was just over 10 and lowest was just over 8). This was travelling at 60-65 MPH. Very happy with same as I was advised that I should only get about 8.

Mind telling the weight of the Mazda. We are looking for a toad for our 29D.

2009 Mazda Tribute weighs approx 3200 lbs without contents. Very light and tows great. Ford Escape is the same, but be careful as certain transmissions are not towable 4 down.

We just got back from CA and I only checked the mileage once on the trip and it was 9.5 MPG. I wasn't towing my Yaris, it weighs in at just over 2300 lbs. When I have towed it with the Aspect, (V10 also), I usually averaged between 8.5 and 9. I will be towing it behind this 29D to Durango next month and am looking forward to seeing what it will get. I always use premium even though the manual says 87 octane because I do a lot of traveling in the 'high' country of CO, NM, UT, and the Pacific Northwest. I've never had a problem with the 2008 Aspect the four years I owned it. The reason I bought a Yaris for a toad, the only thing lighter is a 'Smart' car and it just seemed to small.

Hey Arizonaeagle,
Was that Yaris a standard or automatic? We been knocking around the idea of a Kia Soul.
Not really fond of the idea towing all 4 down but see a lot of people do it. We have been careful about the weight of items in the RV trying to keep the mpg as high as possible.

We'll let you know our mpg as soon as I have some road "hash marks" (experience) as we use to say in the Navy :-)

Just completed a 3173 mile trip in our 29D. Mountains, flat land and hills in 8 states. Best I can determine we got between 8-9 mpg. Not towing anything. MH is new so this might improve with time. No issues with the coach or E450. Was somewhat surprized with the driving ability of the coach. No problems at all.

Gas Milage

Drove from West coast to Nashville in the 26 foot Eagle and got right around 9-10 on regular. We were doing around 70 most of the way. It was of course a little worse going the Rockies and better across East Colorado (West Kansas) and Kansas.

Glad to see you had a good trip in your 29d. We are suppose to get our 2012 Melbourne 29d this month? Haven't heard anything yet. Did you have any surprises on your trip with your 29d?

No, not really. Coach and E450 were great. Used the tow/haul a lot in the mountains. It really helped. Still not sure about the inverter operation but did not have any problems. We packed to much was one thing. Need to watch that in the future.
When you pick up your new rig, you need to have the dealer SHOW you how to operate every system. Not just talk their way through it. A mistake I made.
Any other questions, let me know.

Tom, glad you're enjoying your new Melbourne. Isn't it a great motorhome? We are near four years on ours now, and will leave Friday for a 7 week trip to Idaho. If you have questions about any of the systems, let us know on the forum. Continued good luck.

First chance we got to give 2010 F150 Super Crew Max Trailer Tow a workout. Pulling Jayco 31V loaded heavy and good size load of wood in truck. Two adults two kids. We went through mountains of Towanda PA put on around 450 mi. Gas mileage 9.8 I was happy with that.

We just bought a Melbourne 2011 and took it on our Maiden Voyage. Here is the results at 55mph.
At 1200 feet of elevation with some rolling hills and a climb to 2000 feet = 10.1 mpg.
On I-17 from 2000 feet to 7000+ up to the Grand Canyon at an average 45mph = 9 mpg.
On I-40 from Grand Canyon to Lake Havasu City at 55mph from 7000+ to 2000 feet = 11.2mpg. We were bob-tailing, no tow.
