Jayco 31DS Front Sway Bar Upgrade

I All I can say is WOW......

Roadmaser E450 Front Sway Bar upgrade What a great product. I installed the 1139-176 Front sway bar 1 3/8 diameter on my 2015 31DS and what a difference the drive is now.

If you are thinking about this upgrade do it as soon as you can. The install was very easy, I did it myself. The only tools you need are 18mm & 15mm open ended combo wrench, 18mm & 15mm deep sockets. Some never seize.

First I used the front leveling jacks to take the load off the front sway bar, then dis-connected the links at the end of the old (still new) factory sway bar. Then removed the mounting bolts for the sway bar bushings from the frame, the large one (18mm) was a ***** lots of lock-tight.

Removed factory sway bar, Lubed new bushing with supplied grease, slid on over the new sway bar installed factory mounting brackets. Installed all bolts without tighten all the way. Centered the sway bar in the mounts. Tighten all bolts. Inspected install, raised all jacks. Test drove the motorhome and was very pleased.

What was it doing that the bigger sway bar fixed?

Sway bars control body roll. Usually a beefier bar out back is enough to reduce excessive roll. I could see a bigger bar in front complimenting the rear aftermarket bar installed by jayco. Its really only something you will feel a difference in corning at speed.

I have considered it. Glad to hear it improved the already great ride quality.

I loved the ride, but I did have some body roll and some sway in the wind. I think that the front sway bar helped out as much as the rear one. I am going on a long run in a few weeks. I will let you know it runs...

I just hope that it doesn't make the ride any harsher. Sometimes that is the risk with the larger diameter sway bars. I actually test drove a 31DS and my wife sat in the back of it during some of the ride and it is WAYYY better handling than the Winnebago View we have. Given the thread on wandering and how there seems to be a couple trains of thought on how to fix it, one by putting in a new piece on the front suspension and the other that says the Hellwig helper springs need to be adjusted properly. Just trying to understand what you have tried, and the symptom that you are looking to correct.

Thanks

Had you looked at your Hellwig helper springs to get them properly adjusted?
