Can anyone tell me the difference in JRIDE and JRIDEPLUS? The 2015 brochure lists the suspension enhancement as JRIDEPLUS where the 2014 brochure shows JRIDE. I am looking at a new Precept 31UL that was manufactured in October of 2014. I test drove it and it was very affected when trailer trucks passed and seemed to sway a lot. It may have been a lot of my nerves, as I have never drove a motorhome before. I read on some forums where handling is a concern of some people and they are installing sway bars. Any information and advice you could give me would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

I can't help with your specific question, but it's very likely someone on this forum will have some information.

In your post you said, 'I test drove it and it was very affected when trailer trucks passed and seemed to sway a lot.' One thing to check is the tire pressures; they might be low.

Inflation near the upper end of the tire's pressure range will help stiffen the sidewall and reduce sway. Higher pressures can make a harsher ride and the dealer usually wants customers to feel a softer ride.

Thanks for the information. The salesman said the tires were probably low. I still can't pull the trigger and buy it yet. The one I drove was built in August of 2014. I was hoping to find one that was not already almost a year old.

Jmoonv...welcome to the forums. Do a search for Precept on this forum. Also do a search on iRV2.com under the F53 chassis threads. There is a tremendous amount of info.
As for the affect from winds & large vehicles....my 31 UL had noticeable movement. I added $1200. worth of rear trac bar & steering stabilizer to tame the beast. It is better.....but there are definitely challenges at times.
Remember....your sales person will tell you what you want to hear.

Thanks for the information. I will take your advice and try to find a dealer with a 2016 in stock. My wife and I both liked the 31UL better than anything we have looked at and both think this is what we will get eventually. I will also look at irv2.com and try to learn more. I am new to forums and can't figure where your signature is so I can click on it. I would by happy to learn all I can from the folks on your forum..Much Thanks

I believe the Jride plus added a second sway bar in rear for 2015.

My new Precept 35UN was terrible to drive until I brought tire pressure up and did the CHF mod to it. It drives much better now and I have not spent a dime so far. If it still gets squirrely in wind I may add a rear trac bar but the front is pretty good now.

I don't think a "good driving" class A is out there if you are expecting it to drive like your pick-up.

We had a 2015 31ul and it was a lemon. Handling was terrible. Traded out for a 35 in. Much better handling and ride. Take your time and test drive them all. Salesmen just want to sell.

jmoonv, We just took delivery of a 2015 Precept 31UL in April. As previously mentioned tire pressure is critical. Ours handles well and have driven in some windy weather. You will get air disturbance from trucks in all vehicles. We have had many motorhomes and for a smaller class A the Precept handles well. Part of being relaxed while driving is having confidence in your equipment. A new class A driver in a new motorhome may not have achieved this yet. We drove several brands and the Precept handled the best. Good luck with the search!

IMHO, many (most ?) people overlook tire pressures on ALL types of vehicles. With RVs, at best, lower tire pressures result in poor handling, at worst, tire failures.

I don't know what the 'CHF mod' is, but glad that and tire inflation helped your problem.

The CHF is a simple mod that can be done in your driveway (or campground) if you have a 16mm wrench and know how to take a nut off a bolt and put it back on. Here is more info about it Cheap Handling Fix - iRV2 Forums

I have been a mechanic most of my life so I was a little skeptical of results until I did this to my rig. Now I am just like all others who have done it -- WOW!! Just don't understand why the factories are not doing it for us. This really made a noticeable difference in the handling on my machine.

I kinda knew on the test drive the tire pressure was not correct. Once home, I found 86psi in all tires and the DOT sticker recommended 90 psi. I raised pressure to 95 psi in all tires and got very nice results. Combined with the CHF my unit drives much better that before.

As stated before - never trust that the dealer has done anything before delivery of a new rig. You should perform your own checks as soon as you get it home. Tire pressure, fluid levels and all other critical items should be checked yourself. Then fill the water tank and do a test night in the driveway. Prepare your food and sleep in the bed. Try to use every feature so you know the RV is ready to hit the road. This will not only help you learn the rig but will bring problems to light before you get stranded somewhere.

All in all the steering settles down with nerves but it takes some time. That said I'm also looking to settle things down a bit...

Can you share what Trac bars & stabilizers you chose? Looking at Blue Ox Tiger Track and Safe-T-Plus... wondering if you also did the CHF fix first, after, or not at all?

Zipperhead, I did not do the CHF. I inquired with my Ford truck dealer about it and they said not to do it. It would add wear and tear to the bushings and was not recommended. There are a lot of people that have done it and feel positive about the results.

I put the Safe-T-Plus on first. If I were to do it again, I would put the trac bar on first. The Safe-T-Plus made a difference with staying centered in my lane of traffic, but did nothing to help the "tail wagging the dog".
The trac bar install made a noticeable difference in handling.
I have read posts/threads indicating the shorter wheelbase RVs have more handling issues than the longer wheelbase units. I have no personal experience with a different MH.
