How do you handle prescriptions refills or having enough when on extended travels?

Our Dr writes a 6 month RX and we use Wal-Mart/Sams since they can and will fill any RX in their system. The only delay(a few extra hours) is the RX has to be transferred from store to store, but it never has caused any problems. Just tell them the normal info and which store filled it the last time. I understand Walgreens & CVS do the same.

Gave up on mail order a long time ago (EXPRESS SCRIPTS) since they could never get it right.

Any large chain drugstore can fill them no matter your location. My insurance recommends CVS, as we get a large discount from them and they allow CVS to fill a 90 day script. I have even left one bottle home during one trip, found the local CVS and they gave me enough pills to get me through our trip until we got home.

The only down side is that it is a large chain store, so the personnel turnover is large and I normally don't see the same people there more than twice.

I usually carry approx. 180 days worth. I keep half in the car and half in the trailer because my trips are always 8-10 weeks long.

We like getting our scripts at our local Vons which is under the Safeway family. Their personnel rarely change at this location and there is usually no line to wait in. We can get refills at any Vons, Pavillions or Safeway. When we were in Seattle in July, the Safeway across the street from our RV stay had no problem refilling my scripts. Albertsons now owns Safeway, but we can't get our refills their yet.

Mine are filled by the VA (90-day supply) and sent to my mail forwarder (America Home Base), who sends them to me with my regular mail.

+1 started this when I long hauled 48 lower and works better in the RV cause I'm not in a hurry to get back on the road.

A word of warning about popping into Mexico. A friend of mine on an extended trip South to Texas and then over to Arizona decided to "Pop into Mexico" for some dumb reason. Nothing big, just bird watching I think. Both he and his camper companion are hunters and they drove the friends truck across the border. Mexican border guards found a box of shotgun shells in the truck box and all hell broke loose. Wives were allowed to return to the US but the 2 guys were arrested and held overnite. The next day after they were allowed to hire an atty [$1500] they paid a fine [bribe] to get their truck released and they were allowed to cross out of Mexico. Total cost was $7000 and a night in a Mexican jail.

Bad idea to get anywhere close to the Mexican border. If the opposite of that had occurred and a couple Mexicans strayed across the border with a box of shells, we likely would have given them a medical check, a place to live, and an invite to bring over their extended family along with free education for the kids and their kids.

We use CVS pharmacy. Get 90 day refills and have had no trouble transferring them to where we are if we need a refill.

If expired, a call to the doctors office gets a refill called in to where we are.
