Melbourne no slideout awnings
After considering all our options, we bought a 2017 Melbourne. We thought it the best buy for our money. On our first camping trip, pulled in the bedroom slide and rain water poured on to the floor. We had to take a towel and mop up the rain on the slide top before it got on the bed. Is this normal in raining weather?

they are only sealed full in or full out. if you pull them in while its raining, water may get inside. if you can its not a bad idea to slope your unit if you can to help the rain shed off away from the unit

That's one reason I won't go without slide toppers.

I know what you are saying Grumpy however, I have been reading the many posts on toppers here and I would be much more inclined to spend the scratch on them if it wasn't for the fact that they need to be monitored and I'm not a big fan of having to put beach balls and what not under the material to prevent pooling plus, I would think they would still need to have branches and leaves swept away before reeling in or wouldn't they just get rolled in and crunching upon retraction? I may need a bit more convincing to justify such.

Haven't had to put a ball under one yet....leaves and debris usually fall off the end as they roll up.
If they are installed properly you should never have a problem.

Like Grumpy, I too have not had any of the problems you mention. When installed properly they should be put at a level where the water runs away from the unit when the slides are pulled in. Branches, yea, maybe on a windy day a few might get it there but I've yet to "sweep" any out. Not to say that I still check just as a precautionary measure!
Just saying.......

After we purchased our Melbourne 24k, our biggest disappointment was that we were told by the dealer that they couldn't install slide awnings. They told us that in the back the awning would block the back camera. On the side slide, it's too narrow between the top of the RV and the slide. We've always had slide toppers and really think they're necessary! The side awning would have cost us $275, well worth the cost.

Also installed on my '15 Greyhawk. They are well worth the money!

X3 on the covers - no probs. Had the dealer throw them in at no $ as part of the purchase negotiation last year.

Melbourne 24K: We put slide awnings on both slides and they are definitely worth it. Bought good quality black slide awnings, to match decor, through Camping World and they did the installation. The camera is not blocked.

That's really perplexing, because it was our dealer, Camping World, that told us we couldn't have them. We've thought about going through Carefree, since they made our large awning. They're in Denver, which is only about 6 hours from us. Maybe we should ask our Camping World one last time!!

Do you have pictures of how they are mounted? Open and closed would be nice.

Had our dealer install a topper on the single slide on our Greyhawk 31FK. Do not have to use a beach ball as the topper slopes away from the coach when the slide is extended. When it retracts, any pine cones, acorns, sticks and rainwater roll off the edge as the awning is reeled in. Have not had a problem with it so far.
