Michelin Tire Recall

Don't know if this effects anyone, but it's worth checking

4 of my 6 tires are on the recall. Both rear duals are on the recalls. The fronts are ok,

I was afraid it was the tires that are on Greyhawks...I am going to check mine tomorrow. Keep us updated on how replacement goes.

So I called Michelin to confirm that the 4 rears were under recall. Was concerned that the new tires may not match the MS's on the front. They said it should not be a factor but if it was then let them know. You can replace with MS2's or if the install place is out then a similar make and brand. They looked for Michelin dealers in my current area and recommended NTB. The recall covers all related costs, balancing, installation.

I called NTB and they had 4 of the MS2's in stock. I went there yesterday and they were very nice. They swapped out the tires and installed and balanced the new ones. Also used torque wrenches to get the correct setting on each lug. They initially said I would have to pay for balance but I repeated what Michelin told me and he confirmed with Michelin and it was all free.

I did not notice any difference in handling on the way back to the park. Admittedly is was a short trip but I did get up to my normal speed with is 55mph.

Very happy with the situation so far.

That's good news, reitrof. Did you have to find a dealer that was capable of jacking your Greyhawk, or can any Michelin dealer do it?

I checked mine and all 6 are on the recall. The spare is not. I contacted Stouhal Tire south of Houston and they are ordering tires for me. He also said all will be covered by Michelin, even if I wanted to replace with a different manufacturer. Stouhal's facility can handle any sized vehicle and have other Texas locations.

Initially NTB wasn't sure if they could but they tried one of their floor jacks and were able to lift each dually individually. They were very careful. They had done class C's before but not that big.

Yes, Michelin told me the same thing. I wanted to stay with Michelins as the fronts are still the MS's. NTB was very close to Jamaica Beach RV park.

Good luck with getting all 6 changed. Are you planning to get Michelins again??

I have to check mine this weekend. How did you check the inner tires on the duals?

Well I looked at mine over the weekend, looks like all 6 are on the list, they all have a date code of 4711. Now I have to find a place that can handle the rig to get them changed.

Yes it's not easy. A couple of ways.

1) Lay on your back and see if the date is visible at ground level between the tires. This can't be done on rear side where the exhaust lies
2) Use a small flashlight and look through each rim hole for the date

I had to use both methods.

How did you check your inner duals without taking the outside dual off?

I couldn't check my inside tires without removing the outside tire. My tire guy said as a general rule they would usually fall within the time period. He replaced all 6 of mine and said come back and see me when you need some more tires. I said, CERTAINLY!

Turns out all six of our tires are on the recall list. We are taking it in tomorrow to a Ford dealer for an oil change and tire replacement. Hopefully there will be no issues. Actually happy the tires are part of the recall as they are all cracking and I was probably going to have to replace them myself.

Checking inner DOT markings

I was able to use my bigfoot levelers to lift the rear tires off the ground just enough so I could look between the tires with a flashlight and rotate them until I could see the DOT numbers.

Had to replace all 6 of mine. A local shop replaced them with MS2s last week.

Michelin tire recall

I received a letter from Jayco, it said the tires on my 2013 Redhawk might have a recall. After checking the tires, I took it to a Ford Dealer. They replaced all 6 tires

All six tires on our 2012 Melbourne 29D were included in the recall. Could not find a Michelin dealer or any other tire dealer in the area with equivalent replacement tires. Finally ordered through the largest local Michelin dealer and told them I'd take whatever brand they got in next. Took about three weeks, but they replaced the recalled tires with B F Goodrich tires. All costs covered by Michelin, and the new tires seem to ride as well or better than the old ones.

If you haven't done so yet, try to get them to replace your tires with Michelin XP Ribs. Said to be the best summer tire that last and last.

All 6 on my 2012 Greyhawk are recalled. Took it to Ford, since the tires come with the Ford chassis. At first the service people would not talk to me but when the warranty manager got involved they did, and I was told this should be taken care of by Ford and they ordered 6 new tires, but unfortunately, they are on back order.
