New graphics - freshening the rig

Just wanted to report on a project I just finished on our 2000 Jayco. We bought it used out of Florida, and the exterior vinyl graphics were badly faded and severely cracked.

I tried to get the original Jayco graphics, but they were no longer available from Jayco or Jayco's original supplier. I took the rig to a local truck graphics company, but they wanted $2,000 to reproduce & install the graphics, and that didn't include removal of the old stuff.

So, I did a bunch of Googling & searching. Ended up dealing with a nice guy at www.graphicsrv.com (no affiliation, BTW). He has lots of vinyl graphics overruns from various manufacturers, and for $75, he has a guy who will use those overruns to design a new scheme for your rig. I received an email with the suggested design (in color) and then ordered the necessary graphics from him. Cost for those was about $500. I probably spent another $100 in various supplies.

Hardest part was removing the old stuff. I used a combination of a hairdryer/heat gun, a sharp chisel, acetone, and a couple of graphics eraser wheels mounted in a drill. Lots of patience, and occasional bouts of colorful language. Once all of the old stuff was off, I went over all of the fiberglass with a cutting pad & polishing compound on a random orbit sander.

Installing the new vinyl was the easy / fun part. The results are below. This weekend I'm going to put a coat of Poli-Glow on the whole thing and call it done. Took most of the summer (I work full time & have kids!) but it was worth it.

This is a fantastic job! The look is very nice. We had a 2004 Jayco JayFlight 29BHS and had faded graphics. I asked around and found a local person who was willing to strip the old vinyl off and repaint the color matched graphics on.

Thanks everyone!

@Michael - I thought about going with painted-on, but given that the rig is 13 yrs old I just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra money. I did have the dark gold paint around the basement redone, though - it was badly faded too.

@Threebutchers - I know, I know... I actually wanted to put the birdie back on, but couldn't seem to find it in the same configuration as original. If someone knows where I could get it, I might add it back if the colors were right.

Oh, and like I said it took ALL SUMMER!

That is a huge Class C rig. There is a lot of camper behind the rear axel.
I am not sure I've seen one that big before and with the basement.

Nice rig.

Would love to see how spacious the inside is.

Doug

Thanks Doug. Yes, I think it's about as big as they came. Really, it's probably a bit too big for the Ford cutaway chassis, and next time I think I'd get an "A". But, it's a good size for the four of us and is in pretty good shape overall. With two kids, we really wanted a bed in the cabover, basement storage and a small slide - got all three. I would have wanted a bunkhouse model, but those didn't get popular until more recently and were out of my budget range.

Has a rear queen bed, walk-thru bath, and an L-kitchen. Jackknife sofa on a small slide out opposite the dinette. I'll see if I can find a couple of interior pics to post.

* edit - Thanks Grumpy - you posted while I was typing - that's it exactly!

It was the largest "C" that JAYCO made and in later years they added a bed slide which reduced the length. When we had ours it handled well and we put over 40,000 on it with a TOAD. It pulled the Canadian Rockies well. We went across Canada starting at the North Dakota border to California and came back through Utah and Colorado with no issues. I think you will really enjoy it.

And I forgot to add:"Great job on the graphics"..

Good to hear, Grumpy. I plan to set ours up to tow our Honda Fit and I figured it would handle it, but your post is reassuring. My only real concern is that the toad will make even harder to maneuver, especially at gas stations. The thing has the turning radius of a battleship...

I wouldn't call it "turning".....more like "pivoting"....that tail probably creates turbulence as it swings....

Yep, the bad part about an E-450. Our 37' SENECA turns a lot tighter.

That looks great, and we are heartened to see the graphic supply link. We are afraid the one we ordered won't be colors we like, and think we might have it redone, and this will make it less expensive. Thanks!
