Onan gen exhaust ext

Just took delivery of new Grayhawk 29MV and was told dealer I should install a gen exhaust extension. The reason is the generator exhaust fumes come in around the slide. Have any of you ever heard of this or is he selling parts?

I don't know whether or not the extension will help, but every RV I have ever owned with a generator you were able to occasionally smell exhaust at some point and time. Not always and not overwhelming or unsafe, but occasionally. I neverhad an extension on any of mine.

Carbon monoxide will not be a problem. Besides that your MH comes with a CO detector. The dealer is trying to upsell you on stuff you don't need. What else is he trying to sell to you that you don't need?

Only other thing was a plug for the water filter when you winterize

I use the Venturi stack on my generator most of the time. With the windows open and the generator running, the carbon monoxide detector will go off. If I'm parked anywhere for a while and plan on running the generator, I'll take the 5 minutes and throw it on. My detector has never gone off with it on. Just my experience. Do you need one? Probably not but I feel better with it on and it makes for good neighbors at racing events where you are camped on top of each other.

We have a 2016 Greyhawk 29MV. We go to a lot of festivals and so we use the generator a LOT (already have 350 hours on it). We have had the CO alarm go off many times for us. It really is annoying, as it usually happens between 4-5am (never in the afternoon).

I do have a Gen-Turi extension that I use, but it will still go off. Now, what i have found, is that if I set the fan on the A/C to "ON" instead of Auto, so that it continually recirculates the air, it doesn't happen. This is great for the warm summer months, but when we use the RV this fall, where we have it set to Heat, then the fan function isn't available. Not sure how that will work out.

When the CO alarm does go off, we sometimes smell gas. We shut down the generator, and open the door and let it air out for a while. Then we can start it back up. Again, in the cold months, this is a pain. I have already had the dealer replace the CO2 alarm, but it didn't fix anything. Not sure if there are any other work arounds.

I love the Onan extension for exhaust...

paid bout $125.00, ...GenTuri...use it as a courtesy to other campers near me when at camp w/o hookups, like Forest Service, or boondocking, gets fumes up high, perhaps a bit less noise...
who wants to blow exhaust straight out the side at a neighbor, people have done it to me, its rude...
my two cents...

I made a home brew genturi from vou tube pics. It is required at all LSU tailgating events. Cost me about $20....

I found plans on Google. Sewer pipe and conduit with couplers. That little space is critical to get Venturi effect for proper exhaust lift.
