Onan trouble code 41

Went to crank up RV QG4000 and it started for a few seconds and stopped. Error code is 4-1. Anyone have details on what this code is. Oil full, air cleaner clean, gas full, no visible signs of rodent damage.

GENERATOR ROTOR FAULT—CODE NO. 41
(Controller unable to sense field or output voltage)
Corrective Action: See an authorized Onan dealer.

Visiting the Onan dealer wasn't cheap for me...

New carb - $300.
Labor - $400
