i bumped-out my slide for the dining room today and found this part laying on the carpet. does anyone know what this is for where it came from? is it some type of a "stopper" for the slide mechanism? I crawled underneath, but did not see anything obvious.
It's a stop block. Had my fair share of working on that type of slide. Guess it wasn't tightened enough from the start.

thank you guys for the feedback. i think i can get to the slide mechanism from the dining room table benches. Do you know if there are other devices (such as limit switches) to stop the slide-out? when i bumped-out and found this part laying on the floor, my slide did stop and didn't run off the track (thank God)!
On my unit it seems the stop block is a fail-safe since it never really bottoms out against the stop itself . I believe the slide motor is "current-limited" much like an automotive power window motor. When my slide is extended the inside seals hit the outer wall and the circuitry stops it just before it would actually contact the hard stop. So while I think you are okay short-term, I would advise replacing it as soon as practical to prevent a significant failure should the limit system not stop the motor normally.
