Patio Awnings - Tie Downs?

I do not plan on having my awning deployed if its even moderately windy. I agree w/ others up top; i'll just bring the awning in. I'm getting these tie downs to hopefully prevent some damage if i can't get to the button in between my falling out of my camp chair and spilling a can of daddy soda all over myself while i valiantly lurch for the button.

When we leave camp, the awning is always in. When we go to sleep, the awning is always in.

I tie it if there is any wind. Loosely tied. Using a bungi cord or spring at the end of the rope. But even if tied, if I am leaving camp I roll it up. A previous comment said to tie only to the tube, not to the arm, and I did not understand that. Anyone know why?

I always want the loop of the hold down strap to be where the pin from the tube goes into the bearing on the arm. This is your strong point and will prevent damage. If the tie downs get in the middle of the arm and it could get bent, I would imagine with very little pressure.

I'll use the tie downs with spring while I'm at the site really cuts down of the sporadic flapping around. But if I'm going to be away for an extended period I'll roll up the awning.

Nope I never leave the awning out if I am not in camp it's easy to push a button and not worry about wind damage. Wind quits push the button again.
