Power on or off?

For those of you Who leave your Greyhawk plugged into shore power during the storage season. Do you leave the disconnect switch on or off for the house battery? We are in an enclosed storage facility and are not using any heat. So I'm wondering if I left the switch on should I turn the breakers for the furnace off? Or just leave the disconnect off? I only make the trip over there to check it about once a week at best.

if you leave your battery disconnect off, your batteries will not charge. Even if you are plugged in shore power.

Let me say this a different way. The "charger" portion of your converter goes thru the disconnect switch also.

I have a 2012 Greyhawk 31FS, I keep it in storage with it plugged in and battery disconnect OFF. This ensures 12v things will not drain the battery down. The batteries DO charge in this configuration, as the inverter/charger do-hicky is 110v.

TX Arvee if you have the batt. disconnect to OFF there will be no charge going to your battery (bank) from the PowerConverter. Unless u use a aux. batt. charger directly attached to the battery.

If I am not mistaken, the battery disconnect turns 12v on/off from the battery to the 12v power center. The power converter is wired directly to the batteries for charging purposes . This may be different on trailers vs. motor homes. My switch stays off in storage and I have never had an issue with a dead battery. The charger keeps the battery ready to roll.

I have a Melbourne and would love to know the answer to this. While plugged in to shore,
12v on or off? I have on now but when asking this question the answer is never the same.

I don't know what the dealers have to say but I've come to this conclusion:

Having plugged the shore power in and then taking measurements both before and after with and without the battery switch turned on And keeping track over a period of two weeks i've come to the conclusion that leaving it plugged in with the house battery turned off is okay. This field observations or supplemented by actually reading the instructions which is something I did after the fact…in our case it talks about how it has a three stage charging system so as not to over charge.

Pick up a DC MULITMETER. Measure across the battery terminals and it will read 12.6-7VDC if the battery is fully charged.

Then fire up your shore power thing and your DC VOLTAGE across the battery terminals should now read 13.6VDC.

If it does read 13.6VDC coming from your on-board converter/charger unit then operate the BATTERY DISCONNECT switch. Now your DC VOLTAGE will drop back to the 12.6-7 VDC telling you your battery is totally disconnected from your on-board converter/charger unit.

Everyones situation is different so read it for yourself... My battery disconnect totally disconnects all the batteries from the trailer system with the exception of the slide-out and tongue jack relays which is attached directly to the battery terminals.

Thanks Roy, that's exactly what I did to arrive at the decision. I appreciate your writing the readings that you should be seeing on a meter. Reading the manual in my case only confirmed what I found.
