Those pictures probably cleared up a lot of confusion for folks. I'm happy you posted them.

The extra bracket has been claimed. SmokerBill is the winner.

After looking at my pictures closer I reexamined the plastic bracket and it does appear to have two hairline cracks in it. My old eyes never saw them. I'm not going to take the door off again just to verify because all I would do it put it back on.

I'm sure glad I did this retrofit now even more than before.

edatlanta,

Thank you for doing a proper photo shoot of this replacement. I don't even know yet if I have the fridge but I've been worried about the problem since I read the thread but too lazy to go look at models and what not. Now that a proper picture has been posted I can see exactly what I'm looking for.

If mines plastic Ill get my dealer to order me a repair kit and fix it properly.

Sometimes a photo makes things that much easier.

Thank you Ed! I appreciate it! Now I have 3 projects for my TT- door hinge, replace outer stove vent assy, and replace city fill assembly.

I can assure you the door hinge will take no more than 5 minutes. Just unload the door before you remove the top screw. The door is heavy enough by itself and I just laid my down flat on the floor so I could see how the retro part attached. Also use a BIG flat blade screwdriver if the same gorilla installed yours that installed mine.

Back in this post Ed offered a Norcold door bracket for a LEFT hand opening door.
http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f5...tml#post436496
I claimed it and Ed graciously mailed it to me, no charge. But I must have mis-read his post, because my door is a right hand opener.

So I will mail it to anyone that needs it. Just make sure your door opens from the left side, not the right, and it will work. Send me a PM if you want it.

I must say the first real test of my new door bracket worked well when I went on a 7 mile dirt washboard road outside of Silver City NM to get to the last RV resort we stayed at. No runaway pickle jars!

PM your address and I'll get it in the mail. I'll even include a copy of the instructions. You'll have to come up with the required washer but a handy guy like you will have no problem with that.

This is for an N6, N8, or in my case a 1095.

Be careful. Next time, you will need to replace the entire front of the fridge/freezer since the model has changed. Same thing happened to me.

The door on my dad's fridge door fell off last year. To hear my niece tell the story, it "almost killed her", but then, she's a teenager and may have a flair for the dramatic. He had no choice but to buy a new door, and he installed it with the retro-fit kit.

So as a bit of cheap insurance, I went ahead and bought the retro-fit kit off Amazon and put it on my fridge last month.

I consulted my dad for some details on installation, even though it was dead simple. One thing we noted was the difference in weight between his door and mine. Same fridge, just mine was manufactured more recently. My door (once removed) could be lifted easily with a few fingers on one hand. My dad said "it took two men and a boy" to lift his into place to install the new door (again, with the drama). So, perhaps this is partly the issue? Both of ours have wood panel inserts on the front, but I have no explanation as to why his door was so much heavier than mine.

Refrigerator Door Fell off

Thanks to hoppers4 for sending me the unused piece for my fridge door. The directions are very cloudy but I finally figured it out on the 2nd attempt. The support goes on the door not the fridge.

It was on here but not very clear to me.

Mod completed!

Was your original door hinge cracked? Mine was, but they were little hairline cracks that I didn't even see until I looked at the pictures I took and zoomed in.

I installed the kit on mine when I spotted the hairline cracks. I would have never seen them without very close observation.

I just did this mod today. Didn't notice any cracks in the original. Anyway, I have a left handed opening bracket if anyone's interested. PM me and I'll send it out.
